Hi everyone, I'm looking for a villa with a pool for our November trip (4-17).

Now the villas are cheaper at this time of year - but then you have to stump up a couple of hundred pounds to heat the pool... so my question is... do you really need to heat a pool in November?

What do you do?

Never been in November, however the answer is definitely yes ( in my opinion) you will need pool heating.
The weather should be ideal, but you will probably find it is on the cool side especially in the morning and evening.

Generally it's recommended that from May to September you won't need heating but November I would say you would.

By the way, prices vary - but the last time we paid £100 for 2 weeks.

We have hired a few villas, we have never pre booked pool heating. We went at the end of october - early november a few years ago and we didnt bother. My suggestion would be not to waste the money and if when you get there you feel it would be nicer heated, let them know, we have never had any problems.

I think that part of the problem MAY be theat it takes a while for the pool to be heated - i.e. you can't say "oh it is too cold today, would like the pool heated up to 86'F tomorrow": I believe it takes a few days or a week to get all of that water heated through.

We are going early October this year and are paying for pool heat - would rather be safe than sorry (or maybe I am just getting old... :rotfl: )

Yes, we always heat our pool.
It can get very (in generic terms) cold during the winter months and if you want to dip early in the morning, or in the eveing then its well worth it.

It does, however use up a bit of propane, so it can be expensive.

It all depends how hardy you are :rotfl:

I'm no pool expert but:

Surely it does not take a week to heat the pool. Whilst it is heating up for your stay wouldn't the people before you be getting heating for free and the people after you for that matter.

Takes my in-laws pool (outskirts of LA) nearer two weeks to heat up... but that is a big, deep pool and I don't know whether, or not, they heat it on some "economy 7" (i.e. slow) option or not...

Having been thinking the same - some part of me "hopes" that the pool may go on a few days BEFORE you get there, so that you get a "heated pool" rather than a "pool being heated" for the time that you are there...

But then, I am an optimist (some times!)

Owners recomend pool heating for the months of Oct. - April. With that being said I really think my kids would go into a pretty cold pool as long as there was no ice. I also know I would never go into a pool unless the air temp is hot very very hot.

My son went in once in Feb. on the day we were to leave and the air temp was 40F. He bedded and I caved. had a great last swim and I was the coolest mom for about 5 min.

I vote for pool heat every time :thumbsup2 . If you really want to enjoy the pool & make full use of it, then heat in November is a must. But if you plan to be out at the parks most of the time and the kids just want a quick dip you may manage without. If you go for heating then always use the pool blanket to retain the heat overnight( if there is one).Heating from cold would probably take a couple of days at most with an electric heater (quicker with gas,but generally more expensive) but it also depends on the size of pool and the air temperature. Of course if the previous guests have had heat then it will be up to temperature already.

I would say a definate yes to pool heating, the pool will be chilly without it. As least if you pre pay the pool is ready for you on the first night to have a quick dip before retiring for the night. The villa that we hire always gives us a good deal on the heating so shop around. :cool1:

100% you need to heat your pool.
Makes no difference what direction sun faces!
Choose a home with pool blanket as this helps retain heat - and do make the effort to put it on every night...it is worth it!!!
Also if there is a spa ,you want that lovely and warm too..
Lynn :thumbsup2

Definitely heat the pool in November!!

Thanks guys - heat it is :thumbsup2

I'm a woos at the best of time and I want to be able to get in the pool not just look at it :teeth:

LOL - looking at the poll results, I think you have your answer! How often do you see that? :teeth: I would have the pool heated at all times of the year - I like it bath temperature - but in November, it's a no-brainer if you want to venture into the pool.

I would heat the park at anytime of the year. I like to swim first thing in the morning before heading to the parks. At the time the water can be very chilly.

we went in november once and we heated the pool, as it gets chilly on an evening and if you want to swim I would definatly advise it

We're staying in a villa in jan 2007, the pool heating was included in the price but if it hadn't been I wouldn't have hesitated about paying extra for it, although I might think differently when I've been! :bounce:

We have been in Nov/Dec and always had pool heating, infact I would only go for a villa that had Gas pool heating at this time of year. We tend to use the pool in the evening when the outside temp is cool/cold .. but it is gorgeous getting into a lovely warm pool and jacuzzi ... the only downside is getting out LOL

also been in october and had the pool heated .. I couldn't bare getting in a cold pool.

Thanks guys!

We went ahead and booked a villa in Lindfields following a recommendation by another DISer - and we will most deinfitely be having that pool heated :)
