Would you have shushed your child?

Shushed and punished! How horrible!

I have a neighbor that sometimes calls my son names. I hate it Fortunatly Stevie is really good at saying, "you can say it all you want but you can't make it true so go away" and that usually works.

I would have shushed my child, asked if they thought they were being nice singing that , and then asked them to apologize. That Mother is encouraging her daughter to be a bully.

If it had been my child I would have been horrified. I would have definitely told her to stop saying that and it apologize there and then.

On the way home I would have explained how horrible it feels to be called names.

You bet I would have!!

I 'm a teacher so I'm used to saying things to any kid I see doing something that's not nice.

I would have said something like, "Oh, we can find something nice to say".

For me, it's second nature...stuff like that pops out of my mouth all the time.

Funny you say that...My Mom is a teacher and when she was here for DD's party, she said almost the exact same thing to this little girl. And, when the girl was acting up, my Mom's teaching instincts jumped right in by getting her to stop. I had forgotten about that.

Oh, and BTW, the girl's mom is also a 1st grade teacher.

Just a quick update:

My sister (21) and brother (15) were over yesterday for a bit. I left DD alone with them for a bit when I get food shopping. When I came home, I got DD ready for karate and wanted to talk to her about what to say if she sees the little girl and the girl says she looks like a monkey or insults her in any way. I asked her if she knew what to say. DD looks me in the eye and says, "Yeah, Mom, I'm gonna tell her 'At least I don't have dog breath like you!'" :rotfl2: Gotta love the young aunt/uncle influence. It took me the whole ride to karate to undo the "damage".

:lmao: That's funny! Did the girl end up saying anything to her? What did your dd end up doing?

Oh, sorry - she ended up not being there. She usually doesn't go on Saturdays (DD goes 2x a week), but I wanted DD to be prepared, just in case.
