Would you have let your daughters trick or treat like this

Last night as I handed out candy, I was shocked by a group of teenage girls who came to my door. They were maybe 14 or 15. They all had on fishnet stockings, mini skirts that barely covered their butts, and fitted tops that showed way too much cleavage. Their faces were covered with glittery make up. I was surprised to see these four girls dressed like that without adult supervision trick or treating. All of my neighbors were shocked too.

They looked more ready for a night out at a club than a night of trick or treating.

I know that times changed, and society isn't nearly as reserved as it was when I was that age 18 years ago, but I know my mom would never have let me go out like that--even on Halloween, and I wouldn't have let me kid go out like that--especially not alone!

Nope, no way would my dd go out like that. I wonder what the cut-off age for trick or treating is. I know there are no "set" rules but my dd is now 12 and I can't see her doing this for too much longer.....and especially not in that kind of get-up!!!

I would never let my daughter dress that way. Especially that young! What were they supposed to be???

I saw one of them at church last night dressed like that ( along with a grim reaper  ) no, I wouldnt let my kids dress like that.

I'd let my 14 year old daughter (if I had one) go out dressed like that for Halloween. If she was younger I wouldn't, though. But only for Halloween- not to a party. It's a day to live out fantasies, afterall. Especially if she was with a group of friends.

As for things being different these days, I have to disagree- I remember dressing as a "disco queen" for Halloween 1979- complete with fishnets, heels, short shorts, a low cut top and glitter make-up. I was 16. And I was going to Catholic school in suburban NJ (no, I didn't actually wear that to school :teeth: .)

Who's to say their parents "let" them go out like that? At that age, I would have left the house looking one way and changed clothes as soon as I was able. :rotfl2:

And sorry, but I disagree with your assessment of how times are changing. I was in school during the 80s and I remember dressing up like a prostitute for a party one year.

And remember Madonna???

I saw several of them like that at the mall last night. I can't figure what the costume is suppose to be. They just looked like "ladies of the night" to me.

Hey guys - they were the Bratz!! ;)

We had a group of young ladies dressed rather provocatively - one had garters on, another was a skimpy nurse's outfit with cleavage (tho she didn't have any!) another was a french maid, another a playboy bunny..... there were about 5 or 6 of them and they were all teens. Don't get it - but it wouldn't be my daughter.

For Halloween I would have allowed it. I also remember dressing like a tramp on Halloween when I was about 14 - and that was 30 years ago!

I am not ready to face that yet.....thank goodness my girls are still young enough to think princesses are the cool thing. They actually went as cats this year, so I got to bundle them up in long black pants and turtlenecks--no cleavage there!

The only teens we had at our door were dressed like cows--very funny!

Would I let her dress like a trashy rock star? Yes. Would the skirt barely cover her butt? No. Would her shirt show cleavage? No.

I think it is fine to dress like a trashy rock star but she would not be showing off private parts doing it.

I can't believe how many posts about how inappropriate it is for a young girl or teen to dress as a tramp. That IS their costume. It is Halloween. If they were "true" tramps, and dressed like that all the time, then it would not be an idea for a costume.

Halloween is a time where you can be whoever you want, but can't do it any other time. So, when i see a 12year old at my door dressed like that, I know she must be Pollyanna the rest of the year.

Ay ay ay... people even have opinions on halloween costumes. You won't let your kid do it, fine. But don't pass judgement on anyone else. And yes, if my DD wants to dress like that in the next few years, I will probably have a real fun time helping her "dress up".

As for an age cut off...come on! Teenager's like candy too. When I was a teen, it was the only night of the year I was allowed out after dark. Let them have their halloween. Geesh. As long as they are not causing mischief, what is the problem?

Nope I would not let my daughter go out like that. I was quite proud, in fact, that she volunteered to do face painting for 2-1/2 hrs at the church Fall Festival last night. She didn't get a single piece of candy, but she worked hard to provide a good time for the kids. Several parents came up and complimented her to me for doing a great job. :earboy2:

I dressed up as a playboy bunny when I was 15. i have no idea why I did it. It was the furthest from my personality. I just thought it was funny.

Well funny until my friend (who was dressed like a baby doll) and I got jumped by a gang of kids from a rival school. We were okay, but shaken. It's probably actually a good thing that I had those fishnet sockings on.

I wasn't really into trick-or-treating but I believe that I was collecting money for a charity while going door to door. That was the last year I went.

Sounds like a normal crowd of youngsters at the mall, or most anywhere today. So many of girls now dress, everyday, like the street corner hookers of years past.

Yes, it's a costume, not the way she usually dresses.

Me thinks the old folks need to lighten up.

We had one group of tweens dressed-up, my Mother and I had the best laugh all night watching them try and walk in the spike heels.

Yet another day, I thank God I have boys. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Unless they decide to dress up like that, Bob!! ;) :rotfl:

When my son was 12 - he dressed up as Psycho's Mother - had the old lady gray-haired bun, black dress, stockings, old shoes, and then he had the Psycho knife that played the music when you lifted it [the knife] up.

He balked when I had him put on a bra and stuff it with water filled balloons. He wanted to know how ladies survived hauling those things around all the time! :rotfl:
