I most certainly would. We went to Playa del Carmen 2 yrs ago with our DD when she was almost 1. We stayed at an All Inclusive but also rented a car and toured a lot of the Yucatan.
I think if you go somewhere and you stay out of trouble, you should be fine.
Take Toronto for example. It is a wonderful city, but if you are out late at night and looking for stuff you shouldn't be looking for, then trouble will be at your door.
Go and enjoy!

I would do Cancun or the East coast, but we canceled out MR DCL trip b/c of the warnings and advisories, but mostly due to the fact we did not want to stay on the ship and the shore excursions we wanted were not the close-by ones.

thanks for the replys
we never had a honeymoon and dd is now 8.
we wanted to go over christmas but $$$
so , jan 8 is it.
now just have to get final approval from hubby. hopefully the seat sale is still on. the flight is with canjet.

I would 100% recommend it! Mexico is colorful and vibrant, filled with history, culture, beautiful sites and incredible beaches. It is very romantic and there is so much to do and experience both on land and in the water. The Yucatan offers a huge range of adventures for all types of physical levels and the people are very friendly. There is a huge range of fantastic, award winning properties as well with fantastic amenities, facilities and dining venues. Very glamorous with lots of sparkle and perfect to just relax and get pampered and even enjoy some quality family time together if you are taking your daughter.
I hope you get to take your long awaited honeymoon with your hubby!

Yes, but I would likely also look at the Dominican Republic and Cuba as good alternatives.

I would not go to Mexico. Too many random unexplained deaths of Canadians over the last few years ( though the last guy was carrying a crazy amount of money). I also don't like the laws in mexico and the police there. It is scary and they are very different from here.

So I stay on ground where I am familliar with the laws, and speak the language.

mmmm Disney is perfect for me. I would even go to Paris, cause we speak french. :)

There are some great cruise deals for that time of year to the Carribean. Check out Carnival as well. A family cruise has lots to do.

Yes, I would go back to Mexico.

I went this year in January and because of the H1N1 scare there were very few tourists.

I stayed in Riveria Maya and it was beautiful, clean and safe :thumbsup2

We have been to Playa del carmen 3 times in the last 4 years. We even had our kids with us on 2 of the trips. I would go back in a min if I had the money for another vacation.

This was an interesting website, thanks for posting the link. Thousands upon thousands of tourists though visit Mexico on a yearly basis and have a wonderful and safe trip. It is the 8 most visited country in the world, and second most visited country by Canadians right behind the United States. It is important to be aware and cautious when travelling anywhere though.
Happy and safe travels to everyone :)

Our cruise has 2 stops in Mexico (Cozumel & Costa Maya). Because of the recent news of the Ottawa businessman found murdered in his rental and the obvious disregard for the murder by the mexican authorities, we have no desire to spend a penny in that country. Why should my money prop up a country that has no concerns for those in their country who are there to provide $$$ to them? (Either through tourism dollars or business expansion money)
We'll get off the ship in Belize and Isla Roatan.

I agree. Recent events have not chnaged my opinion. Mexico has not appealed to me since our first vacation there 20 years ago. We did take a Mexican Riviera cruise 5 years ago an got off at one port only. The Taxi driver tried to con us on our return to the ship. Even things like that leave a bad taste in your mouth. It is sad because Mexico is a beautiful country with a rich culture. Friends of ours have hoped for years to go to Mexico and start a business and live there (She is from Mexico City). The realities of Mexico today keep them here though. Corruption is rampant, and payoffs are a part of business there.
I don't think random tourists need to worry (aside from Acapulco) though. I certainly would not fear for my life if I were to go to a Mayan all inclusive resort, but I also feel I would be supporting a corrupt country.

I can't say that I would.

I have enough to worry about going on vacation - getting murdered is not on the list.

Um, no. I wouldn't want to put my family in potentially risky situations or in an endangered drug war zone that governments have put travel advisories on. Nothing may happen to you during your trip, but why give yourself such worries about personal safety on a vacation that's supposed to be restful and peaceful?

There are so many fabulous beach getaways to choose from (Carribbean, Florida). Mexico may be cheap lately, but there's a reason why.

I just noticed you're from Penticton, B.C. Maybe the Carribbean and Florida won't work for you since they're further away by air, hence more expensive. Have you looked into Hawaii or San Diego? If you fly out of Seattle, your airfare would be so much less. Have you looked for airfares on Cheapoair.com? There are sometimes great deals on that site. Also, consider getting your hotel on Priceline.com using the Name Your Own Price option. Or look on Travelzoo.com for some deals.

Psssst that was on the other side of mexico from places like Playa delcarmen. Like the same distance form here being sounthern ontario to florida. its silly to say you wont visit because the government wont take care of the problem. The us government hasnt done anything with philly chicago maryland atlanta. No disrespect intended to the fine people of them areas. Im just tring to prove a point if you wont goto mexico for issues with violence why do you goto the usa. or toronto or montreal for that fact. Just stay at home and block up your windows. Mexico has alot of good people and it is a beautiful place to vacation.

Unfortunately Winnipeg is yet again the murder capital of Canada, Edmonon is second and Calgary is third.

There were 3 unsolved shootings not too far from me in Winnipeg just last week. I'm going to Mexico to a gated hotel in a gated community should be safer than the north end of Winnipeg.
