When better to go for Christmas activities?:confused3 Seriously, I have a hard time enjoying lights, etc. when it's warm. Dress warm, drink lots of hot cider and chocolate and see all the indoor shows.:thumbsup2

We go to Dollywood each year and love it. We go at opening day in March and sometimes it is cold. I would find out when they put up all the Xmas lights or check to see what rides will be open when you go. Some are down on opening day in March due to cold. Ride mystery mine. THE BEST!!! Have fun the lights are beautiful.

Would and have. The shows are all warm. The only real cold part is watching the parade and singing tree (or whatever it's called). Dress warmly and enjoy.

There are a lot of "inside" places. In the winter they make this huge tent and heat it and have Santa, Christmas crafts, hot cocoa, play area, etc. Don't know if that is set up yet, but it was really nice when we went.

Besides, it is usually just the grown-ups that whine about cold- not the kids:lmao: !!!!

On Saturday they open at 10am, but the first show isn't until 1pm. I would consider the Babes in Toyland a must see show. Make sure you get a show times schedule when you first get there so you can plan to get to the ones you want to see. Last time we went, the lines were longer at Christmas time for the shows than they were during the summer.

No real advice on the restaurants inside the park. Sorry. It's been a year or two since we've gone and it would be outdated info now.

We went last month. We froze.

Remember it is shaded and nestled down in between mountains. COLD WEATHER

Well I am from Fla and so I don't know if my vote counts!;) But NO WAY would I go outside all day if the temp high were 40!! My bones would be frozen! Our temps are going into the 30's tonight and I have our heavy jackets out for when I take DD to school in the morning! (which I will still make DH go and warm the car up with the heat on for us!! and DD and I will run to the car!!:goodvibes )...Can't of course warm the car in the garage.

So no I would not do it!! But if you are used to the cold than maybe you can take it better than I could!!

No It's to cold. It's even colder in the mountains.

We went last year on the opening day of their Christmas Extravaganza. As crazelion said, it's even colder in the mountains, plus, it's nestled in a hollow. We froze our rear ends off. Wound up leaving around 4:30 (got there around noon), rode thier new Mystery Mine ride, a few others, ate a bite (I think, not many memories of the place truthfully we were so cold), drove back to our cabin in Gatlinburg to thaw out and go out to dinner. IF you do decide to go, you can purchase decent discounted tickets through AAA, I think all four of of tickets together were only a little over $100 total.

Just make sure you pack your winter gear to be out in the cold all day!!!

Have a great time, and you will if you are warm enough.

Do you and your kids like to play outside in the cold? If you do, then maybe its a go, if the kids don't like to go outside and play in the cold all afternoon, may be not.

I have been to Dollywood twice. We drove all the way from New York two years in a row. We love it!! I would go there if it was below freezing. There is so much to do there and in Pigeon Forge. Go and have a wonderful time!

dress in layers is my main advice. Like long underware/cuddle duds under the pants and tops. esp under pants b/c they do't have the extra layers the top does. Hats and gloves also. That way if you go into a show or some where warm you can shed a layer or 2 w/ ease and put it back on afterwords.

I put on an event every year for the past five years at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO (you may remember that Dollywood used to be known as SDC), it is owned by the same family (The Herscends NOT Dolly Parton), and the parks are very similar.

It is the 1st saturday of December. It is usually cold, the warmest its ever been is in the 50's, and two years ago they were using plows to haul away snow IN the park while we were there. Yes it was cold enough for snow to still be on the ground, in abundance in the middle of the day. My husband and I and our usually 25-50 attendees have a blast EVERY year.

I dont know if Dollywood decorates for Christmas like SDC, I am assuming it does, but the decorations are worth in themselves. Just be aware that most of the thrill rides (coasters) will probably be closed. Except for Blazing Fury that should still be running, with no water. (we have a similar ride know as Fire in the Hole).

I love SDC, especially at christmas-time, and have come to think of it as the SECOND happiest place on earth.

BTW if you happen to find a "make your own smores" stand that allows you to roast your own marshmallows, you should try it. Those things are amazing, and puts those dollwhips and mickey bars TO SHAME!

Personally, no. I am a cold weather wimp and I am not afraid to admit it!
Now, if you are used to those temps it might not be so bad, I don't know. But I know I would not have any fun at all if I was that cold. I went to a football game a couple of weeks ago and the temps were in the upper 40's and I was so miserable! I drank so much hot chocolate I was almost sick from it and I was still cold and miserable! Can you take it? Not me!
