Would you go to Dollywood if temp. is 40??

I think it will be fine. It will be cold, but sunny - dress appropriately. The lights are up, and they're beautiful. I can't really recommend any specific restaurant in the park, as we usually end up eating something from one of the stands within the park - curly fries and corn dogs, etc. I think the TN tornado closes if the temp is below 45. Get some hand warmers, etc. I think you will enjoy it. There are some deals for season passes now, you can upgrade your day pass for the rest of this season and next season, for a really reasonable price, if you live close enough to come a couple of times within the next year. Heck, I live 10 minutes away and I STILL need to get over there before they close for the year! We did get our $$ worth by using our passes at Splash Country, though!

Funny about it previously being Silver Dollar City - my husband worked at Dollywood when it was SDC - the only thing remaining at DW from SDC is the Blazing Fury ride!

We are going there the week of Christmas, and I can't wait. I did ask someone about the outdoor rides and they close a bunch of them if the weather is below 40 degrees so if you are counting on that, check the weather very close.

Me personally, I already know that I am going to freeze. I'm cold if it falls below 70. :rotfl2: But, they have Christmas lights and Christmas shows that look amazing.

I didn't know that about AAA discounts. That will save a good bit. :thumbsup2

Also, they are doing something new this year. It's something about a 4-D Polar Express indoor ride. We will be checking this out. :)

Regular tickets are like $41 with AAA, but I think the CHristmas tickets were less. MyAAA link says available at GA, FL and TN branches, I"d call your local one and see if they have access to them, if not there's an office in Chattanooga.

Been there done that as a Dollywood season pass holder!! Bundle up and go. Haven't been this Christmas season yet, but Babes in Toyland is a great show and I heard 1st hand from one of my kindergarten students that the "Polar Express 4-D" is "awesome."

Thanks everyone...I think we will try it. I just raided walmart for long underware and gloves. I also picked up hand warmers. Which rides are good? My boys rode all the coasters at Disney, but not quite ready for some of Universals sized coasters.

How old are you kids?

My ds13 is very adventurous and will ride anything. I have never been to Universal but I doubt if the rides at DW compare. I don't know. There is a ride that is similar to a coal mining cart. It is awesome. It takes you straight up slowly and then you wind around like a mining cart and you eventually flip upside down. I don't think it is too major.

We went opening weekend. We walked by the Polar Express 4-D three times and the lines were always between 1 1/2 and 2 hrs long. We decided to catch it next time. We walked right into Babes in Toyland (which was the worst for lines last year). That probably won't last. They bring in LOTS of tour buses of folks during the holidays and they ALL want to see Babes.
