Would you go to Disney 31 weeks pregnant?

I'm early, so no guarantees - but... If this works, I'll be 31 weeks for our Memorial Day trip.

Dh is very concerned that I won't be able to walk the parks. I think I'll be fine.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Obviously, we won't be able to travel if I have complications, but I'm basing this decision (for now) on a regular, non eventful pregnancy.

It's really up to how you feel, but if it were me, i wouldn't. I am a huge obsessed WDW fan, but I wouldn't be able to enjoy WDW at 31 wks along. Back pain, swollen feet, easily exhausted are how I felt on a regular day while preg. Also, don't forget about going pee 50 times a day!
Everyone's pregnancy is different so it really depends on you feel, but that's my opinion.
Congrats on your pregnancy!

I was feeling big and miserable already at 31 weeks last time. Plus with the heat and humidity of Florida in May, I wouldn't want to be there and pregnant. But if you took breaks and paced yourself, I guess you could do it but I would enjoy it even more if I wasn't pregnant at the time. (Plus, as you said, you don't always plan for problems in your pregnancy and I had them the 2nd time around so I wouldn't have been able to go but wouldn't have known that until about 28 weeks.)

Thanks for your replies.

We had a trip planned in October, but we canceled it :sad1: We knew we were planning this May trip. Now, of course, it is all up in the air.

I'd really, really like to go - and the kids would be so disappointed if we cancel.

I just got back (well, almost 2 wks ago now) from WDW where I was 31 weeks pregnant - and really enjoyed it! Of course, it is much cooler in November than in May.

That said - and as others have said - everyone's pregnancy is different. I was pushing a stroller and still outpacing the other 3 adults in the group. I have to say that I wasn't as tolerant about standing up for long periods of time, but that was about the only time (other than missing rides) that it really impacted me.

I, admittedly, have fairly easy pregnancies (after the morning sickness passes, that is) -

ANYWAY - it's all about deciding what you can and can't handle - you will definitely have a DIFFERENT vacation 31 wks pregnant!!!

I did at that time. Infact, I'm due December 10th and I'm going December 2nd for my Fiance's birthday. >.< It's so close to the due date but he understands that I'll probably be sitting down alot and all. We last went on my birthday which was November 8th. So, I guess we'll see. :confused3 In a shorter response, it all depends on how you feel closer to the time that you go. If you feel like you'll be miserable due to swollen feet, etc. then it's best you cancel it so you aren't wishing you were back at the hotel laying down instead of being at the park. You want to enjoy yourself. :)

Your biggest concern will be the heat. I wouldn't plan to be out during midday because you will overheat (not good for you or baby) and you will burn. Pregnancy skin tans and burns very easily due to the extra blood flow. I think it is something you could do as long as you plan on taking it easy and not pushing yourself to much. My DH and I went to some ballgames (my DH says Go TIGERS!) when I was 31 weeks and I got winded but could keep up. During the game, I had to stepout of the sun several times to get cooled down and get more water. Have a great trip!

Thanks, Everyone!

I plan on walking at the gym all winter, so I should be in good shape. We also plan on taking afternoon breaks everyday - so I should be in during the hottest/sunniest parts of the day.

:thumbsup2

Considering this isn't your first go-round at this pregnancy thing;), you know your body best. But, I still would say a big "nope" to going 31 weeks pregnant if it were me. I went 18 weeks with #1 (not a problem in the world) but then I went 22 weeks pregnant with DS#2 and I was already getting some good back pain from the walking, and I am (okay, was!) pretty fit. I'd wait til the newest member of your family is 6 months old. YOU will enjoy your self so much more, the little one will be a great traveling age and it isn't too long for your other kiddos to wait to go. It would be even more disappointing to your family to have the trip planned as is then have to cancel if you have any complications than if you say "hey, let's wait til the baby can come and we can go as a big new family!"

But, as always, your trip, your time, your money! Do what is best for you!

Any chance you can move the trip forward? Being there 5 months preg wasn't so bad. But 7 months would give me serious pause... :sad2:

Check with your health insurance. If you would go into premature labor, some companies will not pay if you are x amount of miles from home after a certain week of your pregnancy.

I did FINE at Busch Gardens in Virginia, early September, at 34 weeks. I realize it's not the same size and it was 1 day only, but we went for the whole day without a break (DS was 5) and it was no problem! And you sound like you're in better shape than me...LOL.

Is it possible to move the trip up to February or March, by any chance?

I hate to sound negative, but you can never predict what will happen; and that's getting pretty late in the pregnancy. Personally, I had my kiddos at 26 and 32 weeks, with no signs of problems until after we were into the pregnancy. I guess I would be concerned about being that far away from any doctors or facilities who knew me and my history and I could trust. But because of my previous experience, I'm also cautious. I would strongly recommend that if you do choose to go then, that you talk to your OB and get the name of someone local they would recommend just in case.

We don't get to go often and I am a total thrill rider, so it wouldn't be worth it to me to go when I was pregnant.

I also have a sister who was just four hours from home when she had placenta previa or abruptia (where the placenta pulls away from the wall of the uterus and you & baby are bleeding to death) with baby #1. She was completely alone for the diagnosis and emergency c-section. Bad enough. But the baby spent the first four weeks of his life in the NICU there (transfering him home was not an option) and she had to stay at a Ronald McDonald house and was far from her family and support.
So I always have that riding around in the back of my head when people suggest traveling while pregnant. Not trying to scare you, (I actually hate when people tell young pregnant women their horror stories) but my sis was young, in good health and had an uneventful pregnancy, so it is possible to have an emergency situation come up even if you feel great and doctor says everything is normal, etc.

I wouldn't do it, either.

What about your DH taking the kids without you? If he needs help, can he bring a relative? I've gone without DH since my kids were 4 and 6, as he can't always get away. I even took them to Hawaii without him at that age (met family and friends there). So, maybe you could stay home and get some pre-baby things done? Just a thought.

Or changing the dates?

I just think it's a bit risky. I had my son in Hawaii, and it's not as hot there as it is in Orlando in May, and I still got dehydrated easily with that pregnancy (also went into preterm labor with both, so I was on bedrest and meds, for the whole third trimester with DD).

Whatever you choose, good luck!

On my way home from our trip now...and I'm almost 34 weeks pregnant.

We planned a last minute trip for Thanksgiving weekend. I can't fly at this point so we made the 14 hour drive from Ohio.

We had an absolute blast and I enjoyed every minute of it. I outlasted my whole family! We were at the parks at rope drop and stayed through fireworks for 4 days straight. The only thing that really got to me was as a pp said...standing in one place ( lines, parades, etc).

This is my 4th baby. I have no history of preterm labor and felt very comfortable taking this trip. And I would definitely do it all over again! :thumbsup2

For me personally, there is no way I would travel that far away from home at that stage of the pregnancy.

I would not go to Disney 31 weeks pregnant because first of all, if you're 31 weeks you would be really uncomfortable, plus you're going during memorial day. You probably can't go on any rides because it says people who are pregnant or have high blood pressure should not go on some rides. It would be crowded because people who live there will robably want to bring there kids before school starts again.
