Would you go to a yard sale like this?

We hate 'unpriced' yard sales. They are irritating.

:thumbsup2 Us too. We just turn around and walk out.

I know it's a lot of work. However, simply tagging by color or table is a simple way to price things quickly.

If you have freecycle in your area, post a garage sale leftovers ad and give date time. Do that to get rid of the items that you really want to get rid of and then advertise the others for sale.

I woulndn't bother to go. I hate asking prices or aksing to go lower. I would be afraid to offend someone so I wouldn't ask/tell a price.

I'm with the majority: Yard sale items need prices. For clothing, which isn't likely to sell well anyway, it's a good idea to do the "fill a bag" thing.

Keep in mind what a yard sale is and isn't: You have a yard sale because you want to clear stuff out of your house, and you want to recoup a small portion of what you paid for it. No one really "makes money" on a yard sale -- not unless they got the stuff for free in the first place.

On the other hand, if you have things that are really valuable and you want to sell, you can sell for a higher price through ebay (or similar venues). Of course, this takes more effort on your part.

If you have "just stuff" and want to make the most money, box it up and donate it to charity . . . then take the write-off on your taxes. Of course, this assumes that you itemize.

For what you would make on a sale like that just pack it in the car and drive it to Goodwill, Salvation Army or your local thrift shop.

I would list the big ticket items (such as the canoe) on Craigslist. Post a pick and price low and I'm sure someone will come pick it up - esp. this time of the year. GL

Why don't you put the canoe on Craigslist? You would probably get more money that way. There are probably many people who would be interested in a canoe that would not go to a yard sale.

Pricing is key to making money.

I make a lot of money marking clothes 10cents a piece. I don't know why but people get 10 things for a buck and think that is cool.:confused3 I always sell clothes.

Also here is my other gem that was a money maker at my sisters sale. She was selling her video tapes and we marked them $1.00 a piece or 3 videos for $2.00.

I would use that same strategy on bulk stuff you have because it really worked.:thumbsup2

This is what I would suggest. If you just want to get rid of stuff, Freecycle is the way to go!
