Would you go on Veterans Day or Not?

Hi all,

We wil be in the Anaheim area from Nov 7-17.

I am struggling with trying to decide if we do the park on Veterans Day or not? Originally I thought no - I booked a Character Brunch instead that day, and thought we would just relax at the rental for the remainder of the day, as I figured it would be super busy due to the holiday.

However, Touring Plans has it forecasted as a 2/10. Do I go that day? if the forecast is correct it is supposed to be the least busy day of our trip.

I know here in Canada all schools and lots of businesses are closed that day, so I assumed it would be busy at the park. Is this not the case in the US?

Thanks!

If you look at TP's historical crowds for Vets Day last year they predicted a 3 and what they really saw was an 8. That is about what I would expect as well, normal weekend-type crowds for a holiday.

I have been several times on Veteran's Day. It feels like a weekend crowd, I would never categorize it as a 2/10. Not sure why TP would make that call.

I would not go. I know our school district and the surrounding school districts are off. Crowds have been really high lately and I expect it will be very crowded on Veterans Day.

It's a pretty busy day. I usually try to go because Flag Retreat is so special on this day. But, you can expect crowds.

Touring Plans is basing their forecast on previous year's data, but the 60th celebration has thrown off those calculations. Take 60th crowds, HalloweenTime crowds, and holiday crowds and I would expect a pretty busy day at DLR.

Sorry to hi-jack, but what time is the flag retreat usually? Veteran's Day is my first day at DLR and I love the retreat at WDW. Thanks!

@leholcomb
Flag Retreat is maybe around 4pm right now because it gets dark early. They have it in the guide that you get when you first go in. It's very moving at Disneyland. It will be crowded for Veteran's Day, so be prepared. :) The first time I went I sat on a bench up front, and was in tears because it's so moving.

I cry everytime at WDW so I expect this to be no different. Haha. Thanks!

Yeah, the Veteran's Day prediction on TP is about as good as used TP. While Wednesday is usually one of the quietest days in the parks, having a holiday on it will make it quite busy. We'll be there that week. If we had some extra time, we'd skip that day, too. So we'll be one of the many families packing it in that day.

A 2 out of 10. What a joke.

Thanks!

In general - is Touring Plans accurate as far as crowd predictions? What about the lines app portion?

The thing about using TP this year is that because of the 60th nothing is normal! Times that used to be slow are jam packed this year. There have been very few slow times, even on weekdays since the 60th has started.

Darn. Well. Thats unfortunate in a way, since I am not sure if/when we will ever be back. But I guess at this point it is what it is and we will just have to make do with whatever the lines are. However, pretty neat that we get to see all the 60th stuff.

People keep claiming that if it weren't for the 60th TP would be accurate, but I think they are wrong. Even without the 60th Veteran's day wouldn't be a 2 and they are showing Thanksgiving as a 4 which is ridiculous. If you look through their historical data it has never been a 4 in the past, so why the heck do they think it would be one now? I think they do a poor job with the predictions, but you can look at the historical data and get a good feel of how crowded it was last year and that is valuable.

Oh I totally agree!!

It IS crowded. But then again it has been non-stop especially on the weekends... so if the other option is NOT going, I would go.

I have been a couple of times on veterans day and found the morning its not too bad by lunchtime its packed

I know it was a while ago, but about 7 or 8 years ago I was there and it turned out to be the buisisest day of the year (up to that date) partially because of the Xmas decor. the gated closed for hours that day and getting out after fireworks was a nightmare.
