I have a friend and her husband and 3 year old who are going to Orlando for 3 days in May. They are going to WDW 1 day, Sea World and shopping. They are planning the 1 day in WDW for MK. She didn't know anything was going on May 5th until I told her. Would that be the worst possible day for them to go to MK or do you think it won't really matter if it is the 5th, 6th or 7th?? Just curious what opinions are because I'm going to DL this year and not up on the happenings in May for WDW. Thanks!!!

I'd say skip MK that day.... But that's just me.... In reality, all the rides are having soft openings in April anyway. So, even though it's the "official" start of the celebration, it's not the first day all the new attractions will be open or anything. I would guess that it's not gonna be as packed as people imagine. But maybe I'm wrong... and heck, I'm going to WDW for Easter ( :earseek: :crowded: ).... so what do I know... :rotfl:

I thought about it for a couple of days and went with going 6 days later so I arrive on the 11th. I didn't want to run into all the huge crowds and parks closing early even though I know the larger crowds are still going to be there.

REMEMBER....because Epcot will be closing at 3pm that day.. the other 3 parks will have to pick up the extra traffic and then the Animal Kingdom closes shortly after that so the Magic Kingdom and the Disney Studios are going to be a real zoo.

i am not going to bother going that day i will be finding something else to do

The Animal Kingdom has nighttime EMH on 5/5 and will be open until 8pm for resort guests.

I DESPERATELY HOPE I can go one the 5th for one main reason! I will be part of that day in history, in whatever small way. When that little 3 year old grows up she may just remember being there for I think the most magical castle ever displayed. I don't think it will be that crowded actually, I could be wrong, but most people are still in school and what not so...

I'll be at one of the parks that day, just not sure which one yet. Will be at AK that night for EMH for sure. I did make a PS at MGM so that I could get into a sit down for dinner. I figured with no PS at EPCOT on the evening of the 5th, walkins would not be happening for anyone.

This is also my line of thinking. I like the idea of being there on that specific date 050505, it will be a nice memory I hope. I am getting extra days on base MYW tickets (7 days when I really only need 5 or so), so that if it is mad busy on May 5th we can leave and go to Universal or something instead. At least we will have been there even if it is crazy. Hopefully it won't be that bad anyway, I am hoping that people who aren't big into Disney won't be aware of the special celebration. Is it advertised in the US?? Also with school still being in as you say that should help also.

You bet I would go on May 5th.Wow What a special day in Disney history I would for sure want to be part of it. :goodvibes :flower: :earsboy:

lol I will be there in the MK on May 5th cause it happens to be my birthday    I planned this trip intentionally i thought it would be awesome to be in my fave place on my birthday when they are doing a historical event. lol my age won't be 50 though am young not a teen but younger than 40. :rotfl:

My only concern would be that since Epcot is closing early that day for some VIP event, 30,000 people need to go somewhere else and MK is likely to be that somewhere else.

I'll be there on 5-5-05... I plan to grin and bear it. I've always had a great time even if I don't get to ride that many rides! :) Luckily I'm just one little person that can move quickly through crowds! :)

I'm the OP and maybe I wasn't real clear but this will be their 1st trip and they don't know anything about WDW. I agree with most all the responses---we would definitely be there that day if we lived closer. I would love it also. But for someone that doesn't know much about the parks and will probably not appreciate anything special that they are doing that day--because normal stuff would be fine for them---would it be WAY too crowded for them to go? Or should I encourage them to go that day because it may be special for them? I just wanted to give them a heads up--because they were unaware of any type of celebration going on. And I wasn't sure which way I should encourage them...go May 5th or just wait and do Sea World that day and go to MK on the 6th. Thanks again all!!!

I woud love to go, with the understand that it was going to be very busy and almost with the sole intent of people wacthing in a way. By that I mean understanding that attraction lines would be long and anything we got to do would almost be a bonus. I would not stay the whole day, just a portion, but I would like to be part of the celebration like the OPs have said

I think you should just tell that it could be special, because who knows when the ceremony for the new castle is so other people may still be in the other parks. I don't know I would definitely go, plus there little girl would be able to see Cinderella's coronation, I bet she would love that. I think that's on May 5th as well.

I will be there and I know it is going to be a zoo, But this is a special day and I have been to parks alot of times so I can pick and choose what I want to stand in line for. I will try and ride the new ones and maybe see the stunt show at the studios?

No I wouldn't but if I was, I would be aware of the fact that I would not be riding ANY rides without a LONG wait! Hope they know about Fast-pass, and will use it.

I will be be a strong 'dissenting' opinion here. With Epcot being closed... With the it being the so-called kick-off of the celebration... (Cinderellabration is rumored to actually begin very very soon, NOT on May 5th) And with it being the EMH, Spectro, etc... I will NOT be going for my first once-in-a-lifetime trip to MK with my son on the 5th!!!!! We will be at MK on the 3rd, which should be a low-attendance day.... followed by the 4th.

If these are Disney newbies with a young child on their first trip to actually see and enjoy the 'Magic Kingdom'... I am afraid that they will just be lost and trampled, and see nothing but the lines and crowds and more crowds....

For the true Disney enthusiest, like those on this thread, who are able to visit often... Hey, if that date, 05/05/05 means that much to them... that is really great!!!! Go and make your memories of being at Disney on this particular date...

I am just not so sure that these are the memories that the family the OP knows are looking for?

As a first time, taking my child to experience the 'Magic', the 'official presentations', the hoards and crowds and long lines, etc... would be meaningless for my son, now and in the future.

I hope this family plans wisely!!!!

Just my two-cents worth... As many DISers often say, the advice given here might just be worth what you paid for it!
