Would you go on a long-planned trip to Northern Virginia?

I am going to visit my MIL after this nut is caught, but not before. She lives in Richmond, VA:D

I'd still go.

I'm creeped out by the news conference today. "No one, no where in this country is totally safe from these sniper attacks."

I believe they are thinking it may be terrorism, not a lone crack pot. I pray I'm wrong....

The chance is probably one in a million, but if you're the one, well hey....that's 100%.

I don't think I'd go. This is an ongoing problem and the stress people are experiencing is terrible. I wouldn't put myself under it unless absolutely necessary.

It's just too random and too unpredictable.

As others have said you need to do what is right for you and your family. Personally, I believe that my time is already set in stone, that my choices will lead me there and that I can't do anything to stop it. The way I look at things, I am not even guaranteed my next breath. So I would go because it was such a special family occassion, one that can never be revisited. Maybe writing a pro and con list will help to perhaps take out some of the emotions and allow you to look at it more logically.

I would not go. We are planning a trip to Alexandria, VA & DC in February, and I will not go if this is still going on.

We still haven't decided. We seem to be the only people in the extended family seriously considering cancelling. I really like the advice to do what is best for MY immediate family, though.

I should add that it would be hard to go to the wedding and stay away from I-95. Both the church and the reception hall (especially the latter) are near I-95 in Springfield. Most of my relatives are staying at the Hilton where the reception is. We had not planned to stay there (with children we were either going to stay at the nearby Hampton Inn so we would have breakfast or move to a downtown DC hotel), but now I'm thinking that, if we go, we might want to stay at that hotel so we wouldn't have to do any moving around beyond the wedding itself.

I think the key for me would be the children not wanting to go. I know that even though I tend to be the kind of person that takes risks and is not cautious about things that other people are cautious of, I do feel stressed when I'm out and about. I wouldn't want my kids to feel that way for an entire weekend if they didn't have to. At the same time, it could be that they're initially fearful, but would feel fine once they got here. Good luck whatever you decide.
