Ok..so our plans for Sept are kinda on hold...and it looks there are MANY rooms available at the PP for the week of 8-2 thry 8-8 or 8-9 thru 8-15. I was stunned to see so many open rooms. I guess the economy has hit the House of Mouse.

We have NEVER done summer....how miserable will it be?

we did august...not last summer, but the summer before. somewhere around the middle of the month, we did 5 days.

it wasn't really miserable. i mean, it was hot. and it was crowded. even still though, we managed to have a really good time. we have 4 kids, at the time they were ages 2 thru 15, and everybody held up really well. we're all ride lovers, and with RideMax, we were able to hit every ride we wanted to, multiple times. and the longest we probably waited in ANY line was 25 minutes. however, we HAD to use many FP's, and we HAD to have an itinerary in order to pull it off.

we weren't "commando", i'd just say we "had a plan". we left each day around noon, when it really started to heat up and get crazy crowded, picked up lunch outside the park and took it back to our hotel (which we had to drive to - we were pretty far off property). after lunch we let the kids go swimming, then we drove to 31 flavors for ice cream and took it back to the hotel. got the kids bathed and dressed and then we all took naps! when we woke up, we headed back to the parks till nearly midnight each night.

it really, really, REALLY paid off for us to have a plan. oh, and we were willing to get up at 6am each day to get everyone fed, dressed, and at the gates 30 minutes before opening. an hour earlier on MM!! whew!

i think it can be done in a way that is not miserable. you look like you have PLENTY of time in the parks. we had 5 day tix, and honestly, we decided to leave by noon on friday. we were wiped out, and we had ALL gotten to do EVERYTHING we'd wanted to do, many times over.

But it was a choice I had to make so my kids could go while out of school, and so we could save up the money to go. We got misty mates, and cool scarfs ( they have gel in them that soak up water and keep you cool all day) Also got plans so we are not going willy nilly. :lmao:

The one time I went in August it was actually chilly and overcast. (I heard it had been quite warm the week before though). It was crowded, but still fun.

We always end up going in August because it is the only time we can work it in with school and the kid's sports. It is typically hot and crowded but when we were there last year, we hit a "cool" spell and it was quite pleasant.

My kids like it better when it is hot as it is a good excuse to get me on the water rides!

We went in August last summer. The first day was part of a mini-heat wave in the area, but the next day was normal summer weather (85 degrees). IT was kinda warm, but not unbearable. It was crowded, but I always do Disney in the peak season so I have nothing to compare it to. The crowds were not bad enough that it made navaigation difficult. Basically, any day at DLR is a wonderful day!!!! You cant go wrong! We are trying July this year, It will be interesting to compare the differences.

We have gone in August so many times I can not count. We always expect it to be busy and warm to hot. We always have a fantastic time. Miserable is in the mind of the beholder, it is what it is, so enjoy your trip.

Hmmm. I guess it depends on what type of group you have and how you tour.

Here is a recipe for a miserable trip in August:

1. Always arrive late to the parks each morning. The later the better. ;)

2. Stay all afternoon at the parks when it is hottest out and the lines are longest.

3. Get in long one-hour lines in the afternoon like Peter Pan, Dumbo, Splash Mtn, etc. If possible get in lines that are exposed to the sun for most of the wait so it will really drain everyone and make them irritable.

4. Do not use FASTPASS. But if one does use FP do not learn any of the tips and tricks.

5. After everyone is hot and tired leave the parks late afternoon or early evening when everyone else is leaving.

I think your underlying question is if its possible to have a great trip in August. Definitely yes! We have done it several times.

Just wanted to pop in here and say that the OP actually ended up getting a reservation for September (August was going to be a back-up plan, I think?), so I suspect August is off the table now!

I always refer to this link prior to going just to refresh my memory. DGF has asked that I try not to be so commando this year, hard to break old daily habits.

Hi, sorry to butt in, but would you mind telling me where you got the misty mates or if you know where the best place to get them is? We are also going in August and this sounds like a great way to keep cool!

Thanks! :goodvibes

I have been in August with a 3 and 6 year old and it was great. However, I live in central CA where August temps are between 105 and 110. LA was very cool in comparison:). Get to the parks early and take a break at noon, rest until 5 or 6 and go back to closing. go and have a great time
