Affordable and good hair dresser are hard to find. My husband asked me to take our son to his hair dresser. Since the salon she worked for move to a different location, they gave out 10 dollars off coupon for existing customers. Today, I took my son to the new location for a hair cut. I was very happy with the hair cut, however, when I pay, she said it is 10 dollar. I asked her how much is the hair cut she said 11.95 but with the coupon it is 10 dollars because my son is a new customer. I did not fight with her because she is very popular and busy, there are people waiting for their turn. When I looked at the receipt, she charged me for 5 child hair cut = 10 dollars! I know this is not the 1st time she received the coupon because when I asked her if I can use the coupon, she said yeah. She is the one who handed the coupon to my dh. Even I really like how she cut my son's hair, I don't want to go back because of her dishonest! What do you think? Is there anything I overlook? Do you think she is dishonest? Would you go back to her? I would be happier if I don't have the coupon because I really like how she did my son's hair. Thanks for any advices.

I would call and speak to someone else. Just explain it like you are sure it must have been a mistake and see what they say.:)

No. I don't care what the business is, I will not give my hard earned money to someone I think is trying to cheat me out of it.

To answer the question in the title of the post, no. But I'm not sure I understand what the issue was.

I also disagree that it's hard to find a good affordable hairdresser, especially for a boy, so if you don't believe she was honest with you and can't clear it up, then no, I would not take him back.

She charged you for 5 hair cuts and that was 10 dollars? Or did she charge you for a $5 haircut and you paid $10???

This is what I think, the haircut cost 11.95, I have a coupon for 10 dollar off so the cost should be 2 dollar. However, she charged me 10 dollars for the hair cut. The receipt said 5 child hair cut for a 10 dollars total. I paid 12 dollars (I gave her 2 dollars tip).

I'm not really following you. I think you're saying the child's haircut should be $5, but she charged you $10 with the coupon.

Anyway, I would find out the real prices by calling tomorrow. Who knows? Maybe that's just the way their register works. I never like it when I don't know how much things are upfront; I often ask before going and/or before paying.

IMHO, $10 is good for a kid's cut, and $5 is almost unheard of around here. If you are happy with the cut, I think even $10 is a fair price to pay. After your findings tomorrow, then I'd decide if I go back or not.

*Update: OK. I don't think she's dishonest because your coupon is for existing customers, but your son was a new customer. So, really the coupon did not apply to him. I think she did you a favor and you should have kept the $10 off for your DH to use another time.*

Just being a devil's advocate here:

Is it possible the "5" indicates a number on a menu of choices -similar to if I was at McD's - could I have a "#3" value meal? Otherwise, that doesn't make sense.

And - on the coupon - do they automatically add in the tip? Many service-related coupons do that for you, so htat you are tipping on the full amount of the service, not on the discounted price?

I know you considered that she was busy, and didn't question it too much when you were there. On your receipt - how did it handle the coupon? Did it specifically show a deduction for the coupon?

Are you certain it was a $10 OFF coupon and not a coupon for a $10 haircut?

Did the coupon say $10 or $10 off? Also - had your son ever been there before? If not, then he is a new customer and would not be eligible for the discount. Truthfully there is no benefit to her to charge you more than she has to - she isn't the owner so the money isn't going into her pocket. If I went somewhere and got a $2 haircut for my son - I would probably still pay $10 - giving her an $8 tip - the way she did it - you only gave her a $2 tip.

I am thinking you found the issue! Although if the normal haircut is $11.95 and the discounted haircut is $10, that isn't much of a coupon!

I don't understand why the hairdresser is the dishonest one here. Aren't you the one who used a coupon for existing customers for someone that had never had the haircut by this person before?

And I would never expect to get $10 OFF a kids cut anyway.

I'm confused with the OP - I have never heard of a $5 haircut, ever. $10 sounds like a great price for a kid's cut. A $10 off coupon at an establishment with such low prices sounds odd.

Yeah- I may be misunderstanding, but it sounds like you think the regular price for a kid's haircut is $2 and you were charged for 5 of them.

It sounds to me like the OP is saying regular price of a hair cut is $11.95 she had a $10 off coupon so the hair cut should have been $1.95 the hair dresser then charged her $1.95 x5= 9.75 OP is rounding up to $10 so she was charged for 5 child haircuts @ $1.95 each KWIM? I would not go back if that's the case.

She told you it was $10 with the coupon because your ds was a NEW customer so I don't see how she was being dishonest? In fact I see it as her giving you a $1.95 discount :confused3

Also if your reciept was printed from the register, each haircut would be listed seperately (itemized) so if she charged you for 5 haircuts it would most likely have 5 seperate charges of $1.95 or $2, not one single charge of $10. I bet that *5* was the code for a child's haircut, not the quantity of haircuts recieved.

ETA thought of something else. I have never seen a coupon for a hairdresser that wasn't X amount off a minimum purchase. Is it possible there was a $20 minimum in order to use the coupon, so that instead of being able to take off the whole $10, the hairdresser was only able to take off $1.95?

$10 off an $11.95 haircut is a really odd coupon. I agree with those who think you misread the coupon and it was actually for a $10 cut, not $10 off.

I think the OP is saying that old stylist enticed existing customers to go to a new salon location by offering a coupon. Then, when the OP actually went to the new location, they did not give her the benefit of the coupon, but simply charged her 10$ which is the price at the "new" salon for a child's haircut, saying that she was a "new customer." The dishonesty is that she led the OP to believe she would be an old customer at the new salon because she was an old customer of that stylist but she was not charged as such, and did not get the benefit of the coupon.

I also think the coupon probably said get 5 haircuts at the promotional price, in an attempt to keep the customers who moved with the salon to the new location loyal (like a punch card, after 5 punches she would have used it up).

Maybe at the old salon, the discount would have been more meaningful to the OP but still would have allowed the salon to get a "living wage" off the cut (I know I pay 18$ plus tax for my DS3's haircuts, and over 20$ for DS12), but at the new salon the kids' cuts are so cheap anyway, they just charged her the normal rate, because ending up with a 2$ charge for the work of doing a haircut is not something the salon wanted to do. The actual individual stytlist who actually gave the OP the coupon may not have had anything to do with the salon ultimately not honoring the coupon - she may have given it to OP in good faith, and then found out that the new salon would not honor it.

It's all just guessing, but that's what I'm getting from it.
