would you give money to relatives.....

No, OP you've got it backwards. They are supposed to give money to me.

No, just kidding. It's good to live within your means.:sunny:

Nope....not even if they call you crying on April 14th in the evening for $$$$ tax money, because they waited too long to figure their taxes. I said to file an extension...she made a loan instead-with a real Loan place.

Filing an extension wouldn't relieve them of the tax liability, just the actual filing of the tax forms. They still would have to pay the taxes owed (or at least a close approximation). :)

Not if they were just going to blow it--unless you are the state lottery & they have the winning ticket, that is. :wave2:

thanks everyone - i read all. I guess I'm just starting to worry what's going to happen down the line (that nest egg post got me thinking). My husband and I really work hard and try not to overspend all the time (not that we are cheap, it's just I find a pizza and rented dvd more enjoyable sometimes than a fancy dinner that you are still hungry after and a movie that some jerk talked through). Anyways, my husbands family are big spenders on everything and are always in debt. They literally go out every week for something and think nothing of spending $500.- on something they don't really need. I know this is going to come up down the line. They've already started hinting about things since they found out we were talking about an investment.

I guess it depends on which relative it is. I have given my sister $50 so she could go out with some friends for no good reason, whereas I won't even babysit for SIL for her to go out with friends for no good reason--even if she has a good reason I still won't watch that kid of hers (is ther a holy terror icon?). I bought things for friends and they have paid me back. I've only regretted it one time...cost me $250...I concider it a "bought" lesson. Food and rent and such I would help out with in a heartbeat. My sister is wanting to go back to school this fall and I'm *thinking* about buying her books. It just depends in who and what.

Crissy :D

Always make relatives think you live paycheck to paycheck, make them believe you vacation at Disney ONLY by maxing out your credit cards, and never let them know you have investments! Oh yes, sneaky, but maybe they will stop coming for a handout. Oh but really it sounds like lots of us have the same relatives. We have bailed out a few & what makes it madning is they are lifestyle choices or lack of working that gets them into the problems. I gladly help out when someone is sick or has a real problem.

No.

My family isn't the type to ask for money. If it was an emergency and they needed money, then yes. When my brother was in college, he was broke most of the time and we sent him money a few times. He never asked us for money though, we just did it on our own. He worked very hard to better himself and the least we could was help him out with a little cash.:sunny:
