Would you favor a DVC expansion at your home resort?

I think this is pertinent to the thread, if not indirectly.

Does anyone else think Disney cut off their nose despite their face when they threw the gauntlet on AOA? I mean, look... There's a top-notch resort with arguably one of, if not THE, nicest pools on property, and it's a BUDGET resort. It almost looks like it was part of the master plan.

They're too smart to make those kinds of mistakes. They've been doing this too long to slip up. My bet is the goal is to convert most of the "deluxe" resorts to DVC completely over time, except maybe the ones on the monorail loop.

They may leave BW alone also because it's a convention center and close to Epcot but you have to admit, it's not a bad strategy. What's the motivation to pay top-drawer prices for a hotel room at BC when you can stay at AOA for <25% of the money?

I think the "deluxe" resorts (hotel rooms) aren't selling since the recession started and that's what they're going to do. They have to do something and why not do something that costs very little and turns a grand, and continuing (management fees) profit?

IDK about "Budget", AoA is designated Value but the suites aren't cheap by any means IMO. The standard Little Mermaid rooms have priced out close to moderates per night for many dates I've checked (have yet to see AoA fall under any promos). Another complaint I hear from most without a car is the long trek to the bus stop @ AoA. We didn't add on at BLT ultimately becasue I felt the pool was severely lacking as to theming, a great feature pool is a strong selling point.

PVB, I would be for an expansion, but under a some conditions. Fix the hot tub. That thing is down so often, it is only a matter of time before a comedian makes a joke about it. Add more laundry for the studios, one washing machine per 90 studios is terrible compared to the other monorail resorts. Also, make the addition stand alone 1BR, stand alone 2BR, and maybe GVs. They don't need any more studios.

BLT, I would prefer they didn't. Rumors of the other garden wing being torn down and a new tower build have been floating around since before BLT opened. That side would need to be lake view and maybe standard view because CR blocks MK. IF by chance they did build the second tower, I wish they would put in a nice themed pool. It would be nice to have a monorail slide like one of DL area resorts. Also, the hot tubs at the CR pool were not very warm when we tried them instead of the BLT pool. Another item they could use at CR would be a nice kids splash area, like GF and Poly have.

I really hope they do not build a second tower at BLT. Not only would it not have the same kind of MK view but the walk to MK would be longer. I would think all members would be trying to book the existing tower. I would not have purchased BLT if there was a second tower further away. Now if they converted some rooms at the Contemporary to DVC I would not object as much.

I say no. They already expanded AKV to Kidani and now I can never get the room I want because Kidani owners can book jambo at 11 months just like I can. I don't like staying at Kidani which is why I bought at Jambo. They should be two separate booking entities so i can always get a room at Jambo and not be forced to Kidani. I know I may not always get a room but at 11 months out, only Jambo owners should be able to book Jambo.

I very much favor a PVB expansion made up of 1-bedrooms and traditional 2-bedrooms. I think PVB sales and comments on message boards show that it was a big mistake to not include these.

I honestly am in the same boat as far as wait and see what happens with WLV as far as points. Is the WLV expansion a "new" resort as far as booking? Or will it be rolled into the existing resort points chart etc? I for one honestly don't care what they build where. I'm happy as a BLT owner and if they built another tower I would not want my current points chart touched, and I do think about how they would connect it to the CR for monorail access. A second tower as it's own separate resort? Sure....knock yourself out Disney.

I would just want them to make good and rational decisions. I think VGF, the Poly, BLT and BCV are the ones most likely to have major part II's added.

During the 1980s, we regularly vacationed at Disney's Golf Resort/The Disney Inn. We were repeat guests because it was smaller in size and had the feel of a quiet retreat.

Now, I do not expect Disney to build small resorts with less than 500 rooms. However, it is nice to return from the parks and enjoy a less bustling resort. WL/VWL is a quiet retreat and I fear the addition of the cabins and restaurant will detract from the current experience.

I own at WLV and am excited about the hotel room conversion (assuming the point allocation makes sense). We actually prefer the hotel portion of the resort to the DVC portion. Will just have to see how points are decided for my final decision, but I am cautiously optimistic.

We added on @ AKV, when I was reorganizing files just noticed we own @ Kidani. It really was never referenced whether Jambo or Kidani in the listing & I never asked. One of the things I have noticed over the last year or so is that at least 'something' (with exception of the value category @ Jambo) @ AK always seemed to be available within the 11 month window for various dates I've checked. I consider that a plus, however, you raise an interesting point I haven't considered as to what can happen via a secondary DVC expansion.

Grand Cal- yes please!!

I own points there and I can't even get a studio for my "last minute" trip (8 months ahead!!)

No! Not at my home resorts (VGF/BLT), not anywhere. I like the feel of smaller resorts. I'd like some low points cabins at Fort Wilderness, maybe some other Moderate expansions. But mostly more off-site DVCs. I want to go other places too. I know they don't make as much money, but make them smaller.

I'm torn on BLT. Certainly another tower could be constructed on the opposite side of the CR. However, I'm concerned with expansion on the monorail resorts in general as I just don't think the Express monorail can manage the traffic and volume. I wouldn't mind another tower other than the pressue it would put on theme park view rooms. The other tower would have very limited theme park view options and would likely be considered "lake view" almost everywhere. That would really skew view categories and put stress on standard and theme park.

That said, I wouldn't mind having more rooms at the 8-11 month mark that I could get for a reservation.

BWV I'd be fine with if it made sense and didn't disrupt the layout of the space. I just don't think they have space. I can't see them taking BWI rooms because of the convention center.

Mike, maybe a nice follow up poll would be which resorts would you like to see expansions at?
Or more appropriately, which resorts would you be interested in buying points if they expanded there?

After all, it's likely Disney doesn't care what we think about an expansion other than whether people would buy points there.

Wasn't the ultimate expansion of Kidani disclosed from the get-go when they announced DVC at AK or were you told it would only be the top floor(s) of JH?

I came along admittedly just before they broke ground at Kidani so I don't know what the beginning looked like.

I am one of those SSR owners who stays there occasionally even though it is my husband's favorite resort. Add amenities and build like crazy over there.

we were told it would be the top floor concierge and then the 5th floor. They said they were building Kidani but not that it was the same resort. All the DVC resorts are not attached to any other one. each building should have their own time. They pushed on how limited the rooms were at Jambo. less people to fight for rooms with.

It was almost two years after Jambo opened for sale that Kidani was finished. we bought at Jambo when it first opened and they were giving tons of perks.

I heard the expansion at WL was going to be a new separate association from VWL, did I hear that here? Or did someone tell me that during my recent trip to Disney World, I honestly can not remember.

As to the Polynesian, pretty sure Tikiman has hinted it is not finished.
