Would you drive ....If meant not going at all?

I think we are about 24 hours away. I hate long car trips, but flying is becoming less pleasant all the time. Maybe there will be a day when we can take 2-3 days driving(each way) and still spend a week on property. :)

On this trip to WDW we drove from western PA and it went very well. It was our 4yr old DS's first long trip in the car and first trip to WDW. He was very good. It took us 2 days. On the way down we stayed in Orangeburg, SC at a nice Holiday Inn Express. On our way back we stayed in Mooresville, NC also at a Holiday Inn Express. Both areas were nice and safe. The hotels were clean and had interior hallways. Very convienent half way stops for us. We will be flying from now on because of school vacations.

I'm from NJ, and I know what the drive is like. I could only imagine what it's like with 3 kids- but if it meant a trip to WDW I would deal with it! I don't know where in NY are are, but you might want to look into different airports. We would normally fly out of Newark, which is about 1/2 hour ride for us. Lately we've been flying out of Philly- it's MUCH cheaper! We're going to Key West in June, and the direct flights were just ridiculous from any airport up here (over $400!). But for a non-stop round trip ticket to Ft. Lauderdale (3 hr ride to Key West from there) from Philly--- $140! It was almost $300 out of Newark. So if you would rather fly, you might want to look into different airports. The drive to Philly (1 hr and 1/2) is definitely worth the savings on the flight!

We have a 24 hour drive, have only flown once. Have driven with, our kids, brother and family, parents, anyone and everyone who has ever gone with us, drives with us. Since I don't like flying, we are very used to driving everywhere we go.

OH, I should add, our average stay at WDW is a 4 nights 5 days. Last year we also got AP's and went 4 times, one of the times is the time we flew down.

We've been driving for years with three kids. It's not as far as NY but I would do it for sure if I were you! A DVD player is a definite! Every time we drive, I give each child a roll of quarters. As a child complains or argues, I take a quarter away. They first few years, they would loose a couple dollars each. As the years go by, they loose less, of course they are getting older but still want their quarters. Oh, and the money they keep is theirs for the game room. I've done this for about 15 years. My oldest is almost 18 now and she still likes her quarters!
