We will be arriving at MCO at 1:15 (hopefully) and were planning to do the Hoop Dee Do on the same day for the 7:00 show. Do you know think we should keep this or just plan a regular dinner. This is the only day it is available during our trip so I don't think we can reschedule it. What do you think???

I dont see any problem doing it the first day. My gf's friend recently came down from VA a few weeks ago with their 7 year old son and they did it the first day and we joined them. It was a blast

I think it's a great thing to do on the first night. Talk about a great way to get into the WDW spirit!:cool1:

I think you would be fine time wise. That will give you enough time to get to your hotel, check in, start to unpack and freshen up, and get on your way to HDDR.:thumbsup2 I couldn't think of a better way to spend your first night in WDW and get in the spirit!:welcome:

We did HDDR as a "final night" dinner, but I imagine it'd work just great as a "first night" event as well.

I recommend to anyone flying in, NO hard and fast ressies on the first night. Too many missed fantasmic dinner packages, MVMCP's, Cali Grill ADRS and so on and so forth due to unfortunate mishaps in travel. Sure, make plans for the first evening but not one's you'd be sorely disappointed in missing, one's you'd be out financially, or one's you could not easily reschedule for later in the trip.

I've done it on the first night a number of times and it is a fantastic way to kick off the vaca! :thumbsup2

We've done it on the first night before, but not without significant stress.

We drive to WDW, and one year we got caught in a multicar pileup on I-75 just south of Ocala, and were held back a couple of hours. Fortunately, we had the latest seating at HDDR, but we barely had time to get checked in at Boardwalk and make that convoluted trek to Fort Wilderness. We were purely exhausted; still had a great time, though.

As early as y'all are getting in, I woudn't think you'd have a problem. (Famous last words, right? :scared: )

I decided not to do it our first night. I thought it would be a great way to get in the Disney spirit, but I decided we would be too tired.
We have a 7AM flight so we are up between 3 and 4. Travel day is tiring.
That said, if I could not schedule it another night, I might go for it.
We love it, it is lots of fun and all Disney
Have a Great Trip

Thanks all. I have been back and forth on whether or not I should cancel the reservation because I know if I do I am not going to get another one :)

we did it on the day we arrived & it all worked out just fine

we spent the remainder of the day at DTD & then headed off for the poly to hop on a boat ride over...it was FUN!!!

I agree. I don't make ADRs that we'd be really upset to miss or anything with a cancellation charge for our first night. Too much can change or go wrong with travel plans from the time you book ADRs until you actually arrive in Orlando. We had one trip where our flight time got pushed back by 3 hours from what it was when we originally booked. Another flight (not to Disney), our plane was delayed 5.5 hours. And the same kinds of things can come up when driving - traffic delays, bad weather, flat tires, etc.

I did this on my arrival date for my last trip and tbh I think it was a mistake. We were exhausted by the time of our reservation. My caveat is that I had a 4.5 year old and a 2.5 year old and we had had an early travel day. I planned for a nap but even with that everyone was wiped. I think it would have been fine if it were just the two of us or if we had older kids.

Time wise, I think you'll be fine. I just know that we, personally, would be too exhausted after traveling all day to really enjoy it!

I wouldn't do it. Hoop is either fully prepaid or credit card guaranteed against no-shows, depending on whether or not you were on the dining plan when you booked. Any lengthy flight delay and you may lose everything you prepaid for it - or be charged for not showing up if you left a credit card guarantee.

I would do Hoop Dee Doo anyday. No, seriously I use to always book dinner shows for the first day because we do not like to go to the parks our first day. But in 2007 I had Spirit of Aloha booked for the first night and our plane was delayed 30 hours so we missed our dinner show. So the last trip and the one planned this summer we are not doing our dinner show the first night, we now do DTD the first night.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, since it seems like such a great night to do it with "nothing" else going on during the day. But I was reading some touring information that discouraged having anything that is prepaid planned for your arrival day. I guess you'll have to decide if you want to worry about everything going just so on your first day of the trip; if you'd rather start at a more relaxed pace, join us at Chef Mickey's! I think it will be just as much fun with less stress. :goodvibes

I also would suggest not doin it the night I arrived. If for any reason your fight is delayed it could cause you a problem!!

We were going to do the same thing. But we changed our minds. I thought we would be tired from travelling and the whole arriving thing. I wanted to be sure that we were all relaxed so we can enjoy the show.
