I know they are completely different but I can't choose.
Sci fi has the theming, and its convienient in Mgm studios but I heard the food isn't so great.
Cape may cafe has the great food but its in the Beach Club which is out of my way.

Sci-Fi for lunch.
Cape May for dinner.
But if it is convenience -- go with Sci-Fi and ask for a lunch menu, if you are there for dinner. :lmao:

Cape May food isn't that great.

If you haven't been to Sci-Fi, it is worth a trip just for the experience. The food ranges from average to crap IMO, but it is something you ought to do once.

If you lived your whole life ( ;) ) and never went to Cape May...no big deal. But Sci-Fi is worth a trip.

I think it depends on a few of different things...
1. Are you going to be in MGM anyway?
2. Do you have kids & if so what are their ages?
3. Do you prefer being served or are buffets ok with you?
4. Is price an issue?

I know i'm in the minority, but I did not like Sci-FI. :sad2: From pictures & good reviews, I thought it'd be a fun experience. NO. First of all you have to remember that you will probably be sharing your "car" with another party. Didn't like that. To talk to anybody in your party, you have to turn around (if you're in the front) or lean forward (if you're in the back). Didn't like that. :rolleyes2 It's VERY dark in there. Didn't like that. Looked at the menu. Didn't like that. Can't believe we did this.....sheepishly told our server to bring the check for our drinks because we wouldn't be staying. He was very sweet & didn't bother charging us. We left him a very nice tip! :thumbsup2

Not all of the Sci-fi's food is bad. I've been pretty lucky each time ordering the Rueben Sandwich and my husband always seems to enjoy his hot dog. Our kids LOVE the sci-fi so we're kind of forced to go each trip. I have to say it's one of the best themed restaurants. The biggest problem is not so much the food but the $$ you have to pay for it.

We've ate at the Cape May Buffet a couple of time. Last time we were there it wasn't as good as prior times, but it could have been an "off night".

I'd say if Sci-fi if you can go for lunch and Cape May if you're planning dinner.

I'm going to be in Mgm that day and it will be much easier to eat at Sci fi.

I have a 4 year old DD that pretty much eats anything. We loved themed restaurants but we also like fish and we love buffets. It's so hard to choose.

A huge problem is that if we eat at Cape May, I will be cutting it very close since we want to watch Fantasmic that night and then head over to the BC. Cape May closes at 9:30 and Fantasmic will be on at 7pm that night!

We don't mind eating late. We do that at home every night anyway.

Just stay at DS(MGM) and go to the Sci-Fi.

I honestly don't understand why people do all this traveling (especially without a car!) for meals. :confused3 You really won't miss a thing by skipping the Cape May clam bake. As clam bakes go, it really isn't all that good. And you'll spend a bunch of time traveling.

I guess I will go with Sci fi.....by the way, I do have a car but we are horrible with Disney Directions anyway!!! lol.

We have eaten at both (with the kids at Sci-Fi twice and alone at Cape May Cafe). We felt the service at Sci-Fi was under par of all the restaurants an the food was so-so. We loved the food at Cape May Cafe and are going back again this year for dinner.

If you haven't been to the Sci-Fi, I would go for the experience. We found (during lunch) that the service was slow, our waitress was rude, and the food was way off with the prices. But, we really enjoyed our milkshakes and the experience! :)

Jumping into say that although I wouldn't leave to go all the way to Cape May Cafe, I would also not go to Sci Fi. I would do Hollywood and Vine, Mama Melrose or Prime Time instead. I know that they may not be what you really want but I honestly think leaving to eat is a PIA, especially if you have to wait to be seated. Overall it can take 2-3hrs to leave and get back. Not worth it in my opinion.

We did Sci Fi even though my sister warned me the food stinks. I like many others here, wanted the experience. I agree with one of the previous posters:

Way too dark
The worst service we ever had at Disney. I swear the newbies start here.
Really bad food and we really aren't that picky.
The cars are fun for 5 min, then you realize you can't talk to anyone in your party without turning around or them turning around.
Odd number parties leave one person sitting alone - not fun.
You can be seated with other people - also not fun.
My 4yr old HATED the scary sci fi clips. She was freaked out.

Add to that, it was the longest wait we ever had to be seated, 45min WITH advance reservations. I will never eat there again. :sad2:

In the last few months I have read a lot of bad reviews for Sci Fi...I would go to Cape May, we have been there twice and it is very good

I think SciFi is a hoot - love watching the old movie clips, love the milk shakes, quite a few of the meals are good - way too much food, of course. I've had grilled chicken caeser, burger, ribs, onion rings, spinach dip, and a few other things I can't remember. I think two adults and a little kid might fit in one seat.

Cape may is nice but not worth making a special trip out of the park for.

We go to Cape May Cafe on a night we are not going to a Park or when the parks close early. No different than leaving the park to go to Chef Mickey's or Whispering Canyon.

Because of these reason's...I would pick Sci Fi.
I know some ppl are going to down play both places, but you know your family best. I think the biggest down fall to Sci Fi (aside from the $$) is the seating. It is fun sitting in the cars, but you are kinda cramped and it is hard to talk to who you happen to be with. We have never had to share a car with anyone else. Note: You may not sit in a car...they have tables under umbrellas in the back, and some of the cars are large tables with a car front and rear...that is my pick if given an option!
Hope you enjoy your trip!

i LOVE the sci-fi dine in! the food was not bad (i hadn't been there in at least 5 years prior to our visit in july). the milkshakes are to die for! i love the theming and the clips they show are hilarious, but just don't stay for over an hour. that's when the clips repeat. if you like the 50's then i think you'll like this place. we had a great server too, he was very nice!
