When we booked our flights to FL in May, we booked them because DH was supposed to be in a race on the morning we wanted to leave. We booked a later afternoon flight so he could do his race and we would have enough time to get to the airport and leave. Now because of his back injury at the beginning of June, he isn't competing in the race. When I look at the flight schedule, we can leave at 7:31AM vs. 1:30PM (getting in at 11:45AM instead of 6:45PM). We can also get on a 1PM or 5:45PM flight on our day to go home, instead of the 11AM flight. It would be $50 a ticket to make the change, no extra right now because the new flight is cheaper than what we paid originally. The thing is that this was supposed to be a "cheap as you can go" trip just to be able to take advantage of free dining and cheap room rates to be able to spend my 30th b-day there. But to me, I can justify it being worth it because even though we wouldn't spend that extra time at a park, we would check in, go to DTD for lunch and take our time, spend some time swimming in the resort pool, eat our dinner, turn in early for MK the next day. On our departure day we would sleep in, eat b-fast somewhere (maybe even a character b-fast at a resort since we'd have time), then resort hop or go back to DTD until leaving for the airport at about 3:15.

Am I ridiculous to consider it or would you go for it?

Only you can answer that question - how much is extra vacation time worth to you? Does it mean that you get home late and have to get up early for work the next day? what about a potential delay due to weather and what would happen if you couldn't get home in time?

Just some questions to ask yourself!

Also some airlines allow for 'confirmed same day standby' for a smaller fee. With United, for $25 you can confirm an earlier/later flight subject to availability on the day of your flight.

Best wishes to you DH

If it were just Dh and me I would make the change if the total cost was only the $100. IMHO I would go for the extra time, but that is just me. :sunny:

I think booking in those time slots - leave earlier to get there later to get home really adds a day to your vacation. That's how i book for us.

We change ares but we are staying 2 days longer it cost me about 150.00 to do this with us airways. i think it is worth it. :thumbsup2

I DID IT! I CHANGED OUR TIMES!!!

And I'm glad I did! Now we get in 6 hours earlier on the first day!!! I opted not to take the evening flight on the way home...so we're just leaving over 2 hours later on departure day, but that still is better. AND it only cost $40 total because the new flights were cheaper than what we had originally purchased so they deducted the difference!!! AWESOME!!!! I'm so excited for my birthday trip! Now I just need to go order the cake!
