Would you buy your dress on ebay?

I saw a great Vera Wang dress on ebay. But, it's already bid up to almost $800 dollars. I'm not getting married until October, and haven't tried on dresses yet - I've put weight on so I'm putting it off until I've lost it.

Vera Wang usually retails high and I know i could get it altered, but is it worth the risk? Maybe I won't suit the style? But on the upside, it would be a great dress, at a fraction of the new price, and I'd probably be able to resell it afterwards.

Would you buy a wedding dress off ebay? All thoughts and opinions on buying wedding dresses welcomed.

The decision is all yours to make but I would try on dresses in the stores to see what style and size (all depends on designer) looks best on you. This will give you an idea as to if you really want the dress or not. It would also find out if the dress is able to be altered (in either direction). The price does sound decent but you do have a few more months to keep looking if you decide that you don't want it after all.

As you have a bit of time till the wedding, you could always buy it and then if you dont like it or it doesnt suit you sell it on again! like you say Vera Wang dresses usually retail high so im sure you'd have no probs selling it on!

If you know it's a style that will work with you, I say go for it. Like others have said, you could always sell it again. How long until the item ends??? You could go try on some dresses similar if you're not sure of the style. If you end up liking those, then you'll be more sure of bidding on this one. Wedding dresses can be tricky! Good luck!

I am a dedicated eBay buyer and seller and got the buy of a lifetime on my wedding dress! I paid $78, including shipping, for a sample dress.

It came wrapped in plastic, right on schedule and is perfect. :cool1:

I could not be happier with my purchase. Lots and lots of gowns are bought and sold on eBay - the most important thing to remember is to really look at the seller's feedback. Not just the number next to a seller's name but click on that number and take some time to read what people have to say. If there have been negatives, go through the pages of feedback until you can see them and read what their other buyers have had to say. If the negatives are quite old or have been resolved, then it's probably okay. If there is a pattern of dirty dresses, dresses not arriving, etc. then look somewhere else - it's not worth the risk. :guilty:

The other thing I would second that some of the other posters have said is that before you buy a dresss online you should have a really good idea what style will look good on you. Note that I did not say "what style you like." One thing many brides find is that, until you try them on, you really can't tell what type of bridal gown you'll really like on yourself. These are not ordinary dresses and they often wind up working out best in a style you never imagine would work.

So, I guess what I'm saying is if you know the style is for you and the seller has great feedback, go for it. If not - now is not the time. Try some on in a local bridal shop, double-check feedback and don't worry - the perfect dress always finds a way into a bride's hands! :bride:

Sorry for the long post - hope this helps! Good luck!

Thanks everyone for all your advice. The auction has closed today and the dress went for $2000! I'm going to go out and try a few dresses on now, as you suggested and have another look at ebay again later, as i'm sure there will be many more great dresses listed on there. Thank you.

I purchased my dress on ebay too!! It was perfect, still wrapped in plastic with tags on it, and I saved hundreds. I agree that you need to go to a local bridal shop and find out which style and size is perfect. Then go home and get on ebay. I realized when I tried on the dresses I actually wore a smaller size than I thought and was looking at the wrong styles. Good luck!

I bought my dress on ebay. It was in fact custom made for me and absolutely perfect! I would do it again in a heartbeat I even hadded the store to my favorite sellers list and look at what they have available now in case we do a vow renewal in a few years. :thumbsup2

Why not :teeth: As others have said you can always sell in on if it isnt perfect for you.

I bought mine on ebay, half the shop price.
I tried it on in the bridal shop and then bid on one.
It fits fine, with just a minor alteration.
I say go for it, just double check all measurements first.

I sold my backup gown on ebay. I had never even worn the thing. I paid $450, they paid me $75. You do the math!!! Great deals CAN be found!

You should absolutely trying buying your dress through ebay :thumbsup2 There are so many dresses at a great deal. You can even have one custom made for you through different sellers. If you don't like what you get you can always resell it

I had a December VR planned and had to reschedule so now I have two Christmas themed dresses (one which I purchased on ebay) and now I'm going to put them up on ebay and sell them.

The ebay dress was great and I bought from a reputable seller. In the store it was $1,000 and on ebay $250.

Just make sure you check the seller's ratings and ask all of the questions you have before bidding.

Good Luck!

I purchased my dress from eBay and it is gorgeous! I checked the seller's reputation and felt really comfortable with my purchase. I bought it, and it was only 159.00. I had been looking and was not comfortable with anything else. You know how they say you'll know when you see the dress? I knew!! and it just happened to be on eBay. Do your research, and happy bidding! :thumbsup2
