Would you buy tickets for Great Wolf raffle?

We are working on group and individual fundraising for an Explore America trip to NY & DC in 2012.

One of the travelers mentioned a raffle for Great Wolf Lodge. I looked up stuff online, and it looks like the best we could do would be to purchase a night and they may do an extra night as the donation, which would be fine.

Would you pay $5 for a raffle ticket for this type of trip?

I mentioned it to the teacher in charge, and she is not very optimistic about it, because the other raffles seem to have had less than desirable outcomes.

I have a feeling though, with summer quickly approaching, that this would be a great trip. The GWL is a newer one, and the cheapest night there is around $240 for weekday, with $280 being the cost for a Wolf Den Suite.

Anyone have experience getting Great Wolf Lodge to donate a night for a non-profit group?

We plan on going this summer for a couple of nights, so we would definitely purchase tickets, plus every ticket my son sells would go towards his trip anyway, so it is win/win for us!

I would pay $5 for this type of raffle - especially if it were for an organization I support. In the raffles I have been involved in - you don't want people to JUST spend $5, so offer a 5 for $20 type of approach.

Now - you mentioned that your son benefits directly based on the number of tickets sold. Who is paying for the prize? Is that cost being split by all participants?

I have not had any experience with asking for GWL to donate a night, so I'm of no help there...but am curious about the response.

Our school just had their Winterfest fundraise and most of the big prizes went as a Silent Auction, with bids starting at $100 and going in $20 increments thereafter.

The smaller prizes were raffled off.

Something else to consider, esp if you can get GWL to donate something.

And yes, I would enter a GWL raffle if I knew it was going to my school, if I didn't win it.

I do know that Disney's policy to give complimentary tickets or even a free stay at a Resort the group must be a 501(c)(3) organization. I would imagine GWL probably has a similar policy.

I do fundraising for our school and I have tried several times to get the GWL in Mason, Ohio to donate a nights stay. I have yet through them or corporate to get involved in a getaway package. Good luck and I look forward in hearing if you are able to get this as a donation.

The way it would work would be :

Each child who wants to participate would put $ towards buying the first night. If like 28 kids each wanted to participate, and each paid $10 towards the first night, then it would be paid for. Each child would get the $$ from tickets that they sell.

I looked online and just getting a room donated is tough, and most people had luck buying a room and getting them to donate a second night.

I will find out tomorrow if we can start looking more into it. As of right now, it is not even something we, as a group, have discussed. It has just been myself and another parent discussing it.

Thanks for explaining your concept on how the 1st night would be paid for! I would be all over this fundraiser, it makes perfect sense. I especially LOVE how if my DD had ticket sales - how she would benefit from this for her trip costs.

I did - just a couple weeks ago spent $10 for chance to win one night stay in double queen room at GWL, also spent $10 for chance to win a nook color, and $30 for chance to win free tuition for 1 yr to DS's school. It was an annual fundraiser for our school. We didn't win, but it was worth a try, plus it was for a good cause.
