:confused3Would you guys ever take the chance on buying a Outback with 200K miles? I know these are good cars but how much would be left in the tank. It looks great, have not driven it yet. It is a 2006 Automatic for 7950 asking price. Sounds high to me with all those miles but seems to be in line with KBB. Please let me know your thoughts!! Anything I should look or listen for? How has your experience been with Subaru's? Thank you so much for anything you can offer.

I personally wouldn't buy a used car that has more than 100,000-125,000 miles on it period. I just think I would constantly be worrying about what's going to go out. I also wouldn't pay close to $8,000 for a car with that many miles either. But then again, that's just me. I think I would keep looking.

Quick look at Subaru.com says a 2011 starts at $24k. So they want 1/3 of the new price for a car that has 200k on it. Since the chances of it lasting to 800K miles is, well, astronomical, lol.....no, I'd pass at that price. If it were a couple thousand, maybe. This car has been driven a lot....5 years old and 200k is about 40k a year.

And mind you....my 2001 Town and Country van has reached about 270K and while it's still a good ride, dependable, I wouldn't dream of paying $8k for it...and I think we bought it new in the mid $20,000 range too. And as you can see I drive my car about 30k a year.....and I feel like I drive A LOT compared to the average person. I'd definitely want to find out what kind of driving this vehicle has had....being that mine was a van, it's all been roads of course, but the Subaru.com pictures look like this vehicle may have a bit of off-road which is harder on everything.

If you do want to consider it I would pay a qualified mechanic to go it THOROUGHLY and give you an opinion of how much longer it will last. You'll have to pay to get a truly thorough review, but it will be worth it to not spend that kind of money and find out in a year that you blew it!

That is not a good deal at all. Run away. That is the kind of car you give to your friend or family so that when all the expensive problems start kicking in, they can't be mad at you. No way would I pay almost 8K for it. What you should look or listen for is another car!!!! Would not touch that one with a ten foot pole.

No way. Run away! Far, far away! I would guess they probably gave someone 2,000 for it, if they were lucky. That is way too many miles and at that price, you could do much better.

Not a chance! RUN RUN RUN. I would never pay that much money for a car with 200,000 miles. I would not pay $1000 for a car with that many miles on it.

I'm surely no car expert....but I can't help but wonder about a car that is only 4/5 years old with that many miles on it. My husband drives a LOT and his 2007 Outback has less than 80K on it. 200K miles on a 2006 is more than 40K per year, closer to 50k. I'd worry a lot about what maintenance it had during that time. I can't imagine that you couldn't find a 2006 outback for that same price with a lot less miles on it.

That said, we LOVE LOVE LOVE our outback.

$7,950.00 for a 2006 vehicle with over 200,000 miles? as the PP said, absolutely not!

I personally wouldn't consider buying a car with that many miles and definitely not for that price.

Something to keep in mind is that it is still very much a buyer's market (IMO) for cars. There are great deals and interest rates all over the place. I'd do some more looking around.

Only if it were a spare vehicle for our family. And it that case, it'd be a truck that could haul lumber, etc from the hardware store.

We have a 2004 Outback with 162,000 on it. It still drives very nice. That being said, that's a lot of money for a high mileage used car.

If it already has 200,000, I'm guessing you could get at least another 50,000. But that selling price is way too high, IMO, way too high.

My family has been driving Japanese cars since I can remember, and I'm 38. 200K miles is very standard for Hondas, Toyotas and Subarus. If it's made it that far, chances are good, you can get at least 50k more, esp. if they maintained it well.

No, I would never consider buying a used car with more than 50,000 miles.

DH would want to replace the engine around that many miles, and wouldn't want to pay 8K when he was just going to replace that engine. And he said something about having to be careful with certain seals in a Subaru, which I think means he'd hire someone to do the engine instead of doing it himself, which means even more money.

So no, keep looking.
