Would you buy a Subaru POutback with 200K miles

Thank you to all for your comments, I will take that as a definite no. I was more worried about the miles than the price as I would not have even considered paying half that. I did not know the track record of Subaru's so I was wondering from that stand point. I have owned Honda's and they are great, never had a Subaru. I will keep looking but thanks again to all

Love love love my Subaru Impreza! Had my first one for 12 years. Have my second Impreza for a year now! Very happy with my Subaru (especially the AWD). I agree that the price was way too high though!!

No, in fact when DD23 and her DFi were car shopping last year we saw an Outback that had 150k miles on it, they wanted 10K for it, we test drove it but they weren't happy with it. They went with a newer car with less miles for the price. :) But no, I would not buy that car, not at all. :)

I loved all three of my Subarus and DS is still driving the Outback with around 200K on it. I let my first one go at 239K but then regretted it because it was running great and a little money into it would have probably extended it's life for a year or so.

That being said, though, I wouldn't buy someone else's that was that old. My Outback had 85K on it when I got it, but at 200K, you're looking at possibly expensive fixes coming up.

Bite the bullet and get a newer one that will give you years of good wear. JMHO.

Subarus do have great life expectancy, mine is over 150K and running fine.

KBB does list it at 7-8K, depending on condition & options.

I would drive it and ask to see paperwork on maintenence on the vehicle.

If you like it after that, make an offer lower then KBB.

:confused3Would you guys ever take the chance on buying a Outback with 200K miles? I know these are good cars but how much would be left in the tank. It looks great, have not driven it yet. It is a 2006 Automatic for 7950 asking price. Sounds high to me with all those miles but seems to be in line with KBB. Please let me know your thoughts!! Anything I should look or listen for? How has your experience been with Subaru's? Thank you so much for anything you can offer.

This is the same car we just bought for our oldest daughter- but hers is 9 years older: 1997 Subaru Outback, 200K+ miles. We paid $1795 and there was a 30 day warranty. Had the exhaust leak fixed, one new headlight and new wiper blades put in for nothing. Other than that its a great car- loaded with heated seats and all. But I wouldnt have paid much more for it than we did. $7950 is way too high IMHO for something with such high mileage. That being said its great in the snow, and decent on gas. Good luck!

My family owns a Subaru dealership and I WISH WISH WISH we could get that kinda money selling a used one with that many miles!

Look at some newer ones. Sheesh...you can buy a NEW one for under 20K.

That car is way, way overpriced for the age and mileage. My DS used to work at CarMax and that would be a wholesale car for them based solely on mileage. It has been driven very hard over 5 years. Just because it's only 5 years old doesn't really matter when it has 200K miles on it. The vast majority of cars that age have less than 80K miles on them. Heck, I have a 2007 Honda Pilot that has about 37K on it and I drive it everyday to work (26 miles roundtrip) plus it's our weekend vehicle. You can get the same vehicle with a lot less mileage for the same amount of money. KBB is based on average mileage and once you hit the 150-200K point, the value really drops off.

You have no way of knowing how the car was driven and treated. How often was the oil changed, etc. It's just flat out overpriced.
