It's not like hubby was paged into the operating room to perform brain sugery (although it sounds like he needs some himself) or had to chair a big corporate meeting. He was playing baseball. So he went...the only phone call before coming home should have been to ask if she needed anything from the store.

What's wrong with saying "I'm really not feeling well and it would be great if you'd come home and take over with the children so I can rest" end of story.

Unfortunately I think this problem goes deeper than him simply wanting to play softball or whatever... most spouses would have the courtesy to stay home from the first game.

I don't think she needed someone to take care of her, but to take care of her 2 and 4 year olds (one of whom was also sick) so that she could take care of herself.

Where's hubby today? Is he at work or did he take off teh day to take care of the children?

OP...I've read most of this thread, and your question is "Would you be upset?"
My answer to your orginial question and post would be yes. However, I can only speak from my own experience. I have found after 17 yrs that when I tell my DH straight out, there is less chance of a communication breakdown. When I use terms such as "do whatever, I don't care", DH understands that to be that I don't care. He sees that as me giving my consent, not b/c he is a child and needs my approval, but b/c I am his wife and he doesn't want to make a problem between us, that is the whole reason he asks. Honesty is the best policy. Say how you feel from the start. Even if my DH knows that "do whatever, I don't care" really means I'm not happy, it is wrong to be dishonest with my words to him. At that point, DH could accuse me of telling lies. I hope you are feeling better
