My DW and I spent a short time down in Orlando last week with my parents, my sister and her husband. My sister and brother-in-law were celebrating their 15th anniversary. A couple of months ago, I called WDW to inquire about arranging for a "Happy Anniversary" cake to be delivered to their table when they dined at San Angel Inn for their anniversary meal. They gave me the phone number of San Angel and told me to call at least 48 hours in advance.
I did that last Monday, and gave the information to a gentleman who seemed to listen to everything. He was about to hang up when I reminded him that I wanted to pay for the cake, so he took down my credit card number and expiry date.
On Wednesday, the day of the anniversary, I was a little apprehensive about whether everything would get done properly. So, I called again about 11am and talked to a CM named Claudia. She didn't seem to know anything about the original info I had given the male CM on Monday. So, I went through everything again. She assured me that they probably had my credit card info somewhere. She took my phone number and said she would call back only if there was a problem.
I never heard back from her.
Something inside me told me things would go wrong. My sister and brother-in-law came back in that evening with no "Thank yous" or "Boy, were we surprised". I finally asked them and there had been no cake.
My DW and I popped over to Mexico the next day. I explained the situation to the host. He sent a female CM in to talk with "Claudia". She came back and apologized and simply said, "we don't know what happened".
I would have enjoyed hearing an honest "Claudia forgot all about it" or "Things were so busy yesterday, it just fell through the cracks", but that was the only explanation.
I'm not sure what to do, as San Angel is not run by Disney. Would complaining to WDW Guest Communications help? Or am I taking this too seriously?
