This is what the cashier at Walmart asked me last night. She never said a word to me the entire time she was ringing me up, (even after I said "hi" to her), and she kept sighing and never smiled. She bagged my items, gave me my change, and as I was about to leave she asked, "Would you be interested in ending world hunger?" I didn't expect her to say that. I didn't expect her to say anything really. The first thing out of my mouth was, "Not today." As I was leaving, I heard her mutter, "fine".
When I got outside, I turned to my daughter and started laughing. The more I thought about it, the funnier it seemed. I mean, who WOULDN'T want to end world hunger!?! It seemed an odd thing to ask or an odd way to put it. Maybe if she had instead asked, "Would you like to make a small donation to end world hunger?", I would have had a better sense of what she was asking.
"Not today". What kind of an answer was that!?!
I guess it was probably better than saying, "No, I'm not interested in ending world hunger".

That would have been a good answer! I'm not quick enough to think of anything clever.
