Recently did my first non Disney cruise and one of the things I saw that was fun was the Art Auction. Disney has so much available with art pieces I would love to go to a similar auction with only Disney pieces. I understand that on that other Cruise line that the art is not for investment, but just for looks. I'd be okay with that as all the Disney art I've bought is just for me to enjoy.
Would you support DCL doing this?

DCL used to have the art folks on there. Too many problems so they deep sixed 'em (or at least I haven't heard about them/seen them on any recent cruises).

No.

DCL used to have art auctions, as noted, like the other cruiselines (which I find pretty demeaning) but stopped using that art auction company. Now they just have art with prices up for purchase. Much better, IMO.

I wouldn't be interested in an art auction. What made it so fun? We have purchase art on board. I like the way it's been done when we were last on board. Just being able to meander thru, looking at what they have and if I see something I like great, and if not... look another day. I voted no, because not interested in the pressure especially if it's art I really want.

Was on the Disney Dream and they have an Art Gallery with Disney pieces for sale. Prices ranged from $99-$300 with high end pieces going as high as $1,500. Reprints without frames were available for about $35

Absolutely Not! One of the things I like about DCL is the absence of Art Auctions. Park West can get along just fine without my business. :)

When I first started cruising I remember when DCL had those art auctions. It was fun but I prefer what they do now with regular sales. I've purchased a nice little piece that where one of a kind and have never seen anywhere else. I enjoy the gallery on the ship and if something catches my eye I will most likely get it.

My answer is no, but it has nothing to do with the art being "cheap forgeries". Maybe create a "no" option with a less extreme statement attached?

I'm going to guess the free champagne...

The art auctions were “fun” because of the free booze and the thrill that you were winning something (getting an allegedly expensive art piece at a great price). I am sure most people attending on a Disney cruise were not very familiar with the art and what an appropriate value would be. As others have mentioned, the art company supposedly has some dubious practices they can get away with as the auctions are always done on international waters. I remember once on the Magic they tried to auction off a Rembrandt sketch!

Your poll doesn’t really have my answer. I’d would have said “No. I am not interested in onboard art auctions.”
This is my answer.

Am on 10 night RCCL Cruise now, no intention to attend art auctions. There are 6 in our group, one of us does enjoy art auctions, so there is some interest.

If DCL partnered with Van Eaton Galleries to do one of their rare, Disney memorabilia auctions onboard, I would probably book a cruise just to attend the auction. Otherwise, it's a no from me.

When we cruise other cruise lines, we normally attend just long enough for the free drink and then leave.

I do enjoy the art auctions when I've sailed other lines. That being said the art auction this is sort of like shopping for jewelry in the Caribbean. If you know what you're doing, sometimes you can find a good deal. But it's also possible for the knowledgeable sales people to take advantage of you.

I wouldn't be interested in an art auction, but I enjoy seeing the pieces on the ship. I would be interested in a memorabilia auction though!

I voted NO because I'm not interested...

I don't know anything about whether their forgeries or not...just not interested.
