Would working at Disney kill the magic for you? (Inspired by *Belle 2003*'s thread))

I know that many here say they would love to work at WDW. But do you think that working there would kill the magic for you? Do you think you would get desensitized to the surroundings... seeing all the behind scenes stuff? And then if you worked there, would you want to vacation there?

I don't think it would "kill" the magic, but I'm sure it would change the magic. I imagine that I would still love to visit as a guest, even though I had seen the good, the bad, and the ugly behind the scenes. I probably wouldn't experience goosebumps of wonder and amazement as I entered WDW anymore, but I would instead be feeling goosebumps of pride that I was helping others to experience the magic as I had enjoyed it for so many years.
This was sort of the change of "magic" I felt years ago when I became involved in a community theater group that I had long admired and dreamed of joining. Being behind the scenes changed things but certainly did not ruin things for me.

:)

I know that there is only one Fairy Godmother but if I could have her job, it wouldn't kill the magic for me. I would love to have millions of young people to hold and entertain each day (then give them back to their parents ;) )

each day we answer questions about disney and get all excited right here on this site.......this makes me sooooo happy to help others....I think I could do that in Disney World too............Helping others and getting them into the Disney spirit too

It would severly injure the magic. I remember walking though the backstage area when we were there for a HS Marching Band concert. It was extremely unkempt, and headless characters everywhere. I was 16 years old, but it was still a little disconcerting.

For me, not in the least! I'm at AK, in Africa all day, working at Kilimanjaro Safari, immersed enough into the role that I often even 'forget' I'm actually in WDW. Still love visiting the parks as a "guest' as much as ever, though.

In fact, just today the kids and I went to AK and watched the parade & rode the Safari. Then, at park closing headed over to Epcot where we met up with several other Safari drivers. We did some rides, and when that park closed, we all hopped the monorail over to MK and closed that park too...WOOHOO!! :)

I'm not sure if it would. That's why I've never taken any behind-the-scenes tours, because I'm afraid I'll lose the magic.

But DH is certain that when we retire to Florida, HE is going to be sweeping the streets at WDW. It's his dream job.;)

I was just thinking of you, Donna, as I read the title for this thread. :wave2: I thought, "this is one for Pandy Paws!!" :D By the way, what are the chances of us getting to ride in your safari vehicle? We're leaving for WDW on the 24th and would love to have a DISer take us on our safari. :earsgirl: :wave2:

Tina, all you have to do is ASK for me...very, very simple :) The CM's there do a teriffic job with requesting drivers ::yes:: Would love to see you out there, I'll PM you my schedule for that week.

It would ruin the Magic for me; that's why I like living 11 hours away--I'd be desensitized to it if I lived in FL. Wish it weren't true, but it is.

It would depend on what you did for Disney. Not everyone who works there works in teh parks... I know someone that works for reservations and her thrill for all things Disney has changed - she's seen the way in which they run their company, and its not as magical as once thought. but she still enjoys the parks - shes just not a naive Disney lover anymore =)

It would depend on where the source of the "magic" is for you... whether it be buying into the characters, and then having it ruined by seeing them without their heads ;) Or how happy all the CMs are, and then working there and realizing its all an act because they dont really enjoy their jobs that much, or whatever =) Totally depends on the person!
