Would this work? Bring your own plate

Reading threads about 2 and under being charged if they have "their own plate" at restaurants, would it not be possible to go to Party City or some other type store BEFORE your trip, purchase paper plates (dessert size) and slip one or two in your diaper bag, backpack, whatever (in a ziplock so it doesn't get dirty) and use that? It would give the child their own plate AND it would be "special" just for them--ie. Princesses for girls, Incredibles for boys or whatever you got at the store for them. Could also splurge and doing matching napkins. Maybe once Disney sees people doing this they might get the hint and realize how ridiculous this is.

Just an idea.

I think thats a good idea and I dont see any reason why it cant be done!!!

OK..what am I missing now. We have had our grandaughter with us dining (sitdown meals) as recently as easter weekend and we have never been charged for her.

This was over a year ago, but I believe they still sell them. It folds in half, and has a spot for 2 baby food jars, bib, and utensils. It opens to a look like a medium sized divided bowl/plate. Even if you don't use it to feed your child at the buffets, it is great to throw in the diaper bag for snacks, sharing counter service meals, the plane, etc. My DD2 has this thing where she MUST feed herself or she won't eat. "I DO IT", she says, LOL. Last year we bought the sippy type cups with the straw, and toddler plastic utensils at the Walmart by WDW the day we arrived, and they were a lifesaver. She still uses them!

I think everyone is getting a little crazy over this whole thing....They are not going to charge you unless you actually order a meal. Especially HDDR and Luau, as these are already paid for when you go....Just like at Table Service restaurants, you are only charged for what you order.

I think people are getting a little carried away... no one has ever had a problem getting an extra plate so their 2 year old can put some chicken on it. At HDDR, you pay in advance, and they just stack the plates on the table - if you are one short you simply ask for another. They're not going to al of a sudden expect you to pay another meal price since it's prepaid and they don't have the ability to even do that there.

I've been making reservations this week and have asked a few times about my 2 year old (who will be almost 3 on our trip). They are giving me the line "as long as they eat from your plate". I asked the last guy specifically what that meant. He didn't think there would be an issue with eating from a bread plate, but did say that if I filled a plate for her at the buffet that she would be charged for it. Like others have said, it may depend on your server. I guess I'll plan to ask each server how it works when we get there. I like the idea of carrying disposable plates in case I don't get the answer I want to hear. The whole thing seems pretty ridiculous, but I think the cause is that Disney is being pretty ambiguous about it. They could certainly be more clear about it.

Just get food on your plate and put a little on her plate......don't fill a plate for a 2 yr old how much do they eat? I never had any problem asking for an additional plate.

You can ask for a plate for your child and feed them off your plate, no charge for the extra plate. What they mean is if they order a meal they will be cahrged, but "eat off your palte" means that you give them food from your plate rather than orering their own meal, not lITERALLY eating off your plate...

Anne, I was just getting ready to post the exact same thing. What disney means is that you can share your food with your child under 3 (yes they will get a plate to lay their food on), it just means that if you CHOOSE to order them a separate meal from a menu you will have to pay for it separately from the buffet.

Exactly. I'm not sure what has caused all this hype but Disney is not expecting you to feed your 2yr old off the table or your plate.

I have gone to Buffets many time with my 2 daughters when they were under 3, they have chosen their own food at the buffet, and we have NEVER been charged for their meals. Remember that very often people who take reservations, really don't know what they are talking about some of them have never eaten at the WDW restaurant....

:rotfl2: Well said! All the plate smugglers can relax. :rotfl:

I'm sorry, but this is one of the funniest things I've read in awhile.

I'm planning to bring our own plates and silverwear for my son, age 2.5.

WHY? They will get you a plate and silverware. :rotfl:

I posted this sortof tongue in cheek about this whole bruhaha (having seen this mentioned in a few threads) but thinking about it--wouldn't it be a bit special to have your own Cinderella plate at CRT??????

Besides sometimes you wonder if the plates on buffets are really clean anyway......who touched the plate before you-------sneezed on it-------etc etc etc

We could really carry on now.......

I think why they are now specifying the "eat of your plate" thing for the kids under 3 is confusion with the dining plan - since they don't charge for children under 3, people were ordering items off the children's menu for their under 3 year old, and then were charged for a meal on the dining plan, and then had problems since there are no dining points for anyone under 3. Make sense?
