This morning around 2:30 am my home phone rings - I answer and the guy on the other end asks for Naomi, I said you have the wrong number, he said "who is this", I said "Well..who is this", he said "Rick" so I answered and told him my name, he then proceeds to ask me "is this such and such street (which it was, but, I didn't answer him - I hung up), he called right back - this time I gave the phone to my husband (whose name happens to be Rick), the guy goes through the same thing, my husband gets kinda snippy and they guy says he was looking for a Naomi because her son was in a wreck and he did a reverse address look up and found us :rolleyes2. Husband advised him to call the police then hung up.
For some reason I was really anxious & got up out of bed to go look out my windows and two police cars are driving up and down our street with the spot lights on :faint:.
I see one stop at my neighbors house & he was talking to him (not sure if he is the one who reported seeing this person or not), so I also go out to ask if this had anything to do with the phone call :confused3, at this time the other police car pulls up and I talk to him (not the one my neighbor is speaking with) he told me no, but, someone was spotted walking our street and thats why they were called. They continued to ride up and down our street several more times, then I finally fell asleep.
Ok..so my mind starts to thinking all sorts of things - I get a phone call at the same time someone is reported on our street - the guy says a bunch of things that doesn't add up, plus says his name is Rick (same as hubby, so does he know us) someone spotted him & he knew it so he left.
Was this a 'plan' gone wrong so the person bolted before breaking into our house or worse.
Please tell me I'm being over paranoid & my mind is playing tricks:upsidedow or would this of concerned you also?

I would be very suspicious and nervous too. Have you checked with any of your other neighbors to see if they got a similar phone call?

No I plan on doing that this morning/afternoon. My brother lives one house down from us and I do know they didn't get a phone call - I called him immediately after it happened.

I would be very nervous. It just seems strange that some suspicious man would be seen on your street about the same time you got a phone call. Also, it's a little weird that your husband and him shared a name (that could just be a coincidence, don't worry too too much about that). Lastly, 2:30am is a weird time to call your friend to inquire about her hurt son.. especially if he didn't even know the whereabouts of this Naomi since he had to do a "search".

Did you recently move to this house? Could their have possibly been someone named Naomi there before? :confused3

Honestly, I'd be super freaked out. At least the police were there. I'd would go talk to your other neighbors and then maybe call your neighborhood security (if you have any) to ask them to monitor your area. I don't understand why he would call you if he was about to break into your house though-- then you'd be even more alert and aware because you had just gotten this weird call and he woke you up. I can't think of a reason as to why he would call if he was planning something.. Maybe he was really just looking for this woman? It is incredibly scary, regardless. Keep us updated!

We built our house brand new, so no one lived here before us :).
There is a Naomi when we did a 'reverse lookup' at the end of our street - she has a unlisted number - he would have seen this and known this when he called us. I also think he would have said "One of my friends was in a wreck his mom lives at the end of your street & I don't know her number can you..blah, blah, blah. Instead he asked if I was Naomi, knowing I wasn't :scratchin.
I think this is someone is doing their homework, if you know what I mean :scared:!!
The only thing I can think of as to why he was calling before hand - is to see if we were home or who was 'all' was home :confused3.

Hmm.. well the new house blows my theory. Good point about actually inquiring about Naomi. That could be very true about figuring out who was home.. thank goodness nothing happend!!

That is creepy, but it would ease my mind a bit that the police were so quick to respond to reports of a stranger on your street in the middle of the night!

We have a 'block watch' - really not sure if this is who phoned in the call or how it works, but, I'm really glad someone was up and saw this person!!
I do, however, think this person will be back. Its that nagging 'gut' feeling you get :sad2:. I hope I'm wrong!!

PLEASE don't ever reveal your name when on the phone with someone who doesn't know it!

I have received numerous phone calls over the years asking ME what my name is, my reply, "Who are you looking for"?. If the caller can't tell me who they are looking for OR they state a name other than mine, I tell them "Wrong number" then promptly hang up!

You are not being over paranoid! I'd be "crazy" with worry for several days over an incident such as this!

Creepy and yes talk to your neighbors.
In our old house we were redoing the kitchen. Lots of workers in and out of the house. I started getting calls middle of the night. (dirty calls) which resulted in me turning off the ringer- after a few came through though. I thought I recognized the voice as the carpenter. He knew my name and the timing of the calls all kind of added up. He also took his shirt off to work and it wasn't that hot. I don't know if he was testing the waters or what but it was all too creepy to me.

We moved.
I know that doesn't help you. But I got so creeped out we ultimately moved. I think it's great that the police were there so quickly. I'm sure that scared whoever it was. Do you have an alarm? or a dog?

I know...what I did was really dumb, I think I was half asleep .
I'm really more scared for my family than myself :sad2:. I know that sounds crazy, but, the thought of something happening to them - is more than I can stand!!
I'm also going to call the police department monday morning or stop up there and tell them 'my thoughts', I figure it can't hurt :confused3.

Call the non-emergency number today. That way they can make extra loops through your neighborhood. Police work on Sundays.

We do have a house alarm through ADT, but, anyone that has one - knows the 'downsides' to it, but, its better than nothing.

Last night when laying in bed - the thought of us moving did cross my mind - along with many other thoughts :scratchin.

Well...I spoke with one of our neighbors and he didn't see or hear anything, but, he is on the 'block watch' committee (which I didn't know) and he is going to talk w/the others and see if we can get more patrol for the next couple of weeks.
I haven't had a chance to speak with the other neighbor (the one who was also out talking to the police).

that would creep me out too. do you have a dog? I dated a cop who told me that's one of the best deterrents you can have. ( obviously not a teacup anything) Take a walk around the outside of your house and look at windows ( basement especially) and thing that someone could break easily and gain access to your home. What are the downfalls to having ADT??

This is going to keep me up tonight!

Yup that would freak me out. Is it possible he chose the name Rick because when he did the reverse address search your DH's name came up with it? I know on Whitepages.com it gives the name that is listed at the address as well.

So, have you talked to the neighbor that called the police? I'd be interested in knowing what made them suspicious.

It seems odd to me that someone would be up at 2:30am and just happened to look out the window and saw someone they didn't know, then called 911. I'm not saying that's not what happened......just maybe they heard something instead, and called 911.

I'd be knocking on everyone's doors right now!!!

Our neighbor found a guy in their backyard, at night, looking around. The motion sensor light came on and the wife saw him, he saw her and ran.

the next day the neighbor had a lock on his gates, and I had a lock on my shed. Three days later the neighbor had an alarm installed. If you had not answered the phone they may have started entry into your house thinking it was empty!

we have had an alarm since out office was burglarized about a year ago. and someone stole a radio from my truck at home the next weekend. It sure is comforting when we area way from home for several days.

You can also get alarms that will warn of water in the basement and other things.

Mikeeee

Yes I would also be unnerved (ok, freaked out!) by this. Please keep us updated!

I'm so glad the police responded to whomever called during the night. Something was definitely "going on." Let's hope the police activity scared off anyone who was thinking of committing any crimes. I'd be sleeping with the phone & my cell (I've seen too many movies where they cut the phone lines - I know, unrealistic, but still....) under my pillow for awhile.

15 years ago when I was newly married & living in a condo, there was a man who would stand right below my balcony or bedroom window & stare up for hours. He would be standing by my car when I went to work, and in my spot when I got home, like he was waiting. He never spoke or made any movement, but let me tell you, I was TERRIFIED. The police did come, but since it was not private property & he made no threat of harm, they couldn't do a thing. I called them every time I saw him just so it was on record. They sounded like they were totally annoyed by my calls (I'm sure they were but I just needed to call). They reprimanded me for telling them I carried a knife with me every time I left the house. I understand that was illegal for me to carry a weapon but I was TERRIFIED. I'm 4'11" and this guy was easily 6'2" and 300 pounds.

2 weeks later he was caught climbing the balcony of a 2nd floor condo where a single woman lived, with a baseball bat in his shirt. All I was told was that he had a mental illness & lived in the condo complex with his parents, who had gone to Florida for 2 months & left him there alone. He had stopped taking his meds. We moved shortly after that. I have never felt so scared & helpless in all my life. So I totally understand why you'd be freaked out by last night's happenings!

I would be scared also

Is your last name on your mail box or anywhere? People can find the last name in the phone book, then find the street they are on, call the number and see if you are home or not. I have a feeling they were seeing if you were home.

I would call the phone company and see if they can retrieve what number called you that night.
