It wouldn't bug me. Then again, my husband fixed up an old riding lawnmower and took the blades off it for the express purpose of letting our teenage daughter use it like a quad around the property. It's more about the tinkering than the end result anyhow, IMHO.

Besides, if there really is a ton of walking involved, I'm thinking people aren't going to be thinking "what a lazy jerk" they're going to be thinking "man, I need to get me one of those."

I think it's a neat find.

He'll probably end up donating or selling it, but if he doesn't and wants to have a little fun with it, I don't see a problem. Finders, keepers and all.

MY issue is that he has two healthy legs and this IS A DISABILITY Scooter. There were not invented for the lazy person, but for people who have serious issues, who can not walk, or can not at all due to arthritis, or heart problems or what ever.

I see no reason why a person who is healthy, has two perfectly healthy legs with no heath problems would want to use a disability scooter for share laziness.

Totally thinking outloud, but that is kind of an odd thing to find on the side of the road. Any chance it was stolen and abandoned?

It is odd to find this on the side of the road. I can say with 100% certainity my husband did not steal this...He is just a trash picker

Oh no I didn't mean HE stole it, just maybe someone else did ( like kids ) and then dumped it when they got bored.

My Dad was like that. He brought home lamps, ladders, a diamond ring, a camera and a puppy once.

Why yes, actually I do. I knit blankets for senior citizen centers in our area. So there.

And a potroast is a little different from a motorized scooter that is typically used for someone who is handicapped in some manner.

Oh, not to toot my own horn, but I also volunteer at a soup kitchen. So technically I do give away food I cook.

I think this is dead-on!! My FIL is not only a tinkerer, but a hoarder. His garage is overflowing with "neat" stuff he's picked up over the years, intending to fix up.

Joy riding around the neighborhood is totally different than riding around a crowded entertainment venue. Have you seen any of the scooter/wheelchair/stroller for people capable of walking at WDW threads? I'd venture to say most people prefer they are reserved for those who need them not just for people who think it's fun.

Yes, you understand my uneasiness with this. This is a item used for a DISABLED person, not for somebody who has 2 healthy legs and NOT one other health problem.

So??? It's not like he's taking this chair away from somebody that could legitimately use it. If he wants to use it and has no issues using it then leave the guy alone.

This is the first thing that popped into my head too. These things are expensive things and the people that need them don't usually leave them on the side of the road.

Did you not see where the OP said this was roadside trash? The OP's dh was not taking someone elses reserved scooter for his own personal enjoyment. He found something broken that someone had discarded, it is his right to take it, fix it and use it the way he wants. You don't need to make this a thread about him taking away from the disabled, a disabled person probably THREW IT AWAY!!!

My bad. I said that maybe it was stolen ( NOT by the OP's DH) and abandoned and it think it spiraled out of control.

Although I don't think disabled people randomly throw their motorized scooters away. I am pretty sure they can turn them in for some sort of credit towards a new one.

OP, I'd have a problem with that too. I can be honest and say although my DH brings stuff home and fixes stuff up, he'd never use a scooter if the need wasn't dire. He's a believer in "you have 2 healthy legs use them" type thinking. I think that is why he does marathons, triathlons and Ironmans. He has said that type of thing to me when I have complained before even.

Funny how so many people who need to use a scooter will NOT use one too. I remember my dad going to WDW needing one, being in the midst of chemo and radiation yet he refused to use one.

Anyway, it'd bother me just like DisyKat is saying and just how you feel. I hope he fixes it up and gives it to someone who really needs it. I am sure it would bless someone.

No - it wouldn't bother me.. I think he just wants to tinker around with it - may try it a time or two - and then lose interest in it (at which point it would be nice to offer it to his sister if she needs it)..

You know what OP. I agree with you. And if he was my DH I'd tell him in no uncertain terms that I would not be seen in public with him riding on that thing.

If he talked to my mother, she'd say "I wouldn't do that or God will give you a reason to need a scooter".
