Would this bother you? (From the Olympics)

During the Olympics, there was a "zip" line across the Art Galley square. It was part of the festivities. Roads were blocked off.
My friend said there was a twelve year old girl waiting in line right behind her, so she befriended her.
The parents dropped her off to wait in line. Get this, the wait was 6 hours!!! Would you leave your 12 year old daughter for six hours in downtown Vancouver with Olympic crowds?
I don't get this. Am I too conservative?

:scared1:

I'm not sure I would have wanted to do that as a 12 year old!!! Doesn't Canada have really low crime statistics in comparison to the US though? I think my opinion may be a little biased.

That sounds a little crazy to me. I live in Victoria, just across the water from Vancouver, so I have been there many times, and it is a big city like any other. Plenty of crime, plenty of weirdos. There is the occasional shooting and the occasional riot. On the other hand, she probably would have been fine standing in a lineup out in the open and not walking in some dark alley, but still... I don't even feel very safe in many parts of Vancouver when I'm alone (maybe I would feel differently if I lived there), and six hours is a long wait. I hope she had a way to contact her parents if she changed her mind. The zip line sounded really cool, but I was not willing to wait that long.
