I will just point out that many people think Adventure Season, with low points, is not a busy time. It is, particularly for DVC. There have not been any signs of Disney trying to realign to bring spring/summer points costs down and make the low points section of fall and January higher. Do not look at those points charts and expect a lot of flexibility at 7 months if seeking studios, and sometimes even 1BRs can be rough.

Thanks for pointing this out. I did assume that lower points meant less busy and therefore easier to book. The salesperson we talked to didn't clear that up, either. In fact, actually said the 11 month window wouldn't matter as much to us if we were going to travel during those times!

Salesperson was lying. September through Marathon is DVC's highest demand season, with the first two weeks of December being THE two highest demand weeks of the year for DVC. This has been true for years (so it's not a Star Wars thing), and shows no signs of slowing down. If anything, availability of 1BRs at 7 months has gotten worse, and it's definitely a season of "book home at 11 months and do not rely on switching at 7 months."

The "busier than normal" trend has continued into Feb. President's/Princess Marathon is usually busy, but this year it was very busy. The rest of Feb was also busier than what I saw last year. I booked stays in early Feb this year and last and availability was very different. Last year I got a STD studio at VGF a studio at BCV, both had tight availability, but I got them. This year I could not have gotten either. This year I did get a 2BR dedicated at BLT. Fortunately for us, last year was just the DW and me and this year will be with the kids, so I got exactly what I wanted. If the trips had been reversed, it would have been different. I am also hoping it is the SW effect and not a long term trend.

Now back to investing that initial money. I bet you you could find some good investments and easily make 12% on that money. I'm low balling it.

Actually this year and I'm looking at my 401k as of friday....and I'm up 4.40% or $22,000 dollars. And I'm in conservative funds. I always keep a lot of cash as cash is king.

I'm not following your numbers. 6 days for 3 adults on standard dining plan is $1359, 6 days park hoppers from undercover tourist at the cheapest time of the year is $1470. That leaves $1871 for the room, or $277/night before taxes. The numbers could work if traveling at very least busy time of the year with the cheapest tickets and cheapest rates, but most people do not have that flexibility. And the numbers still seem low.

Edit: I went too far with criticism but still curious how to travel cheaper.

And I'd also love to see where 12% return is conservative and consistent. You could sell your advice and make a killing and have even more cash. It doesn't even need to be accurate, just need to be plausible enough to sell enough books.

I booked thru disney web site about 10 days ago. Great deal. Oh akl is a view of the roof of parking lot.

Not sure where you're getting that quote -- I just quoted a week stay at AKL from october 6-13 for 3 adults with 6 day park hoppers and it was $5600+tax and the dining plan increased it to $7200+tax.

The room alone (standard view by the way) -- came out to $3900 plus tax. Even if you got a 30% discount somehow -- you're still at about $3000 after taxes. This is still more money than $2000, which is based on getting a 12% return on the $17000 number you provided.

agree -- I've booked late January for 2017 and 2018 and never had problems moving around at the 7 month mark. this year -- nada.

Again it's 7 nights . I made a mistake in original post. 6 days park hop for 3 adults and a standard view room AkL no view of Savana. It came up available we clicked and we booked

Just wanted to thank everyone for the thoughts and feedback! We've decided to go with the advice to purchase a resale contract first and then add-on direct point later on if/when we want those additional perks.
