Would this be silly, two weddings within 12 months? Honest opinion please...

DH2B got a new job! :cool1: And they have an insurance plan that will cover his epilepsy. The only thing is we won't have coverage until May, but this will allow us to get married in May. Also most of my family will be out of town during that summer, but we would be able to FINALLY get married.

Our idea is to have a simple ceremony in our minister's office in May, and then have our wedding at WDW in January. Silly? :confused3

We are VERY excited, since this is what we have been waiting so long for! And we can use our trip this May as our honeymoon.

Thanks,
Ashley

But coming from me, you know that I think the more weddings, the better. :rotfl2:

Seriously, I think it sounds like a perfect plan. It's your time to celebrate, follow your heart!

Oh thank you for your kind words. We are so excited, I just found out this morning and I dropped the phone and cried! I honestly didn't know if this day would come or not. :goodvibes

Honey, you've been thru so much. Do whatever you want. If you want to have a dozen weddings, go ahead. For once, this is all about the two of you.

But.....you MUST keep us posted. :goodvibes

I agree. Nothing silly about it. I, too, had a simple ceremony the first time around. However, I had to wait 20 years for my follow-up ceremony. Believe me, I would have rather had that second ceremony way sooner than 20 years. ;)

Enjoy the planning for BOTH of your ceremonies. And congratulations.

Not silly at all!! In fact, I've known quite a few people to do the same thing. One friend of mine married her fiance because he was canadian and they needed to start the immigration process early, so they were married but had the ceremony about five months afterwards. Another friend needed to get on the insurance right away but didn't have the money for a wedding until a year later, etc... It's a celebration, do what you want and have a wonderful time.. And congratulations to both of you!!

Absolutely NOT silly!!!

Hey, we figure we ended up having three weddings:

Friday September 16: Quick civil ceremony here at home (cheaper than Florida license)

Tuesday September 20: Our Disney Fairy Tale Wedding...this is the one we've been planning for!

Wednesday September 21: Goofy "marries" us at Toon Town Fair and here's the "proof":

The only question anyone had of me (my mom asked) which day will you actually celebrate...we said ALL OF THEM!! :rotfl:

Do what you want! Just make it as wonderful as you can!!! And enjoy every second of every wedding you have! ;)

thank you for all the support. I will definitely keep everyone posted on our plans! DH2B actually LOVES the idea, now to tell his family

CONGRATS ASHLEY!!!!! It's about time you got some good luck! You should have 2 weddings, who says you can't!

Yes...have two weddings! It's absolutely *not* overkill and seems, actually, to be the smartest option (to me, at least :goodvibes )

And you should also have two anniversaries! :earboy2:

I say go ahead with it. That is not silly at all. In fact you have a valid reason for doing so. My DH2B and I were considering this until a month ago. I was without insurance and his company wouldnt let me be on his plan until were were official. So we thoght the best option was to have a quick ceremony now and then our disney wedding in July. In the end the insurance problem worked out and we are just planning 1 wedding. But for awhile there it was a strong possibility and not silly at all.

Congratulations on the great news!

My best friend and my aunt both did something similar! I say go for it, have a blast and enjoy your special days (just think you will have two anniversaries for your hubby to be to remember :rotfl2: )

Hey!

Brye and I were actually married legally at a courthouse last August. At that point, he was still active duty military and wasn't expected to get out for another three years. By a stroke of luck, he got out within a year of that time... but that's a different story. We got married becuase in the military, you are nothing unless you have that sheet of paper. The Justice of the Peace was the logical option for us. We did exchange rings. We will be re-exchanging much nicer rings this time at Disney. I plan to give both my Promise Ring (yes, we had one) and original wedding band to any daughters we have.

We had a small group there to see us married. I worse a white dress bought off the rack at a department store and a veil from Wal*Mart... after all, this was our wedding day. We had a luncheon with the 15 people that were there at a very nice restaurant after the fact. We had a small wedding cake.

We are having our dream wedding at Disney, and nobody is asking about being married already becuase they understand the military demands certain things during uncertain times. We will celebrate both anniversaries. With the kids, "Mommy and Daddy had a big wedding and a little wedding." Our August anniversary will be much smaller and may be more just dinner and a nice night out.

The one thing I would advise is to figure out if you're going to tell people or lie about it. We decided that although we wouldn't volunteer the information, we would be honest and truthful if anyone asked. We take our wedding bands off when we're home or someone is visiting that doesn't know, etc. If you do decide to do the whole, "secret wedding thing," remember it can catch up to you. The girls on the Knot have a hard time with it when they've lied for years and then fnially have to come clean. A lot of people are hurt no becuase they were married, but becuase they were dishonest about it.

It is ulimately your decision. It is NOT an easy decision to make and you need to weigh your options carefully. Remember, this is still your wedding day and there is a lot of emotion that comes of it. Be sure you search your heart and talk it over with important loved ones (ie, parents, siblings) before you go ahead and do it. If you are doing a, "secret wedding," you need to be 100% sure in your minds, hearts, and heads, this is something you can keep from everyone. Trust me... you just got married! You want to shout it from the highest mountain!

Good luck- make the right decision based on your needs individually and as a couple. I'm willing to talk if you needed anything.
xoxo

Thanks! DH loves that picture! It was totally unexpected and all Goofy's idea...in fact he had to "borrow" the book from another guest!!

We were laughing so hard!

I ended up using that picture on our wedding announcements...thought everyone would get a smile when they saw it!
