We want to stay at the Embassy Suites. If we stay at the one in Lower Manhatten its $289.00 a night or we could stay in one on the Jersey side which is 3 miles outside the city for $195.00. For anyone who knows this area would staying in Jersey be a smart move? Thanks for your help. :thumbsup2

I asked this on your other thread and maybe you answered there, but is the one in NYC the one in the financial district? If so, it's a nice hotel and the breakfast is BIG with a lot of variety. VERY filling with plenty for everyone. I know that's not what you were asking here, but thought that I would mention that.

When we went last spring vacation we were making the exact same decision that you are now making. We decided that since we'd never been before that we wanted to stay in the city. Perhaps when we return we'll stay in NJ and save the $, but I'm glad that we stayed in the city the first time.

We chose Embassy Suites because there are 6 people in our family and we needed a larger suite type hotel.

Yes, it is the Embassy Suites in the financial district. I am leaning towards staying there still. When you stayed there did they charge for parking? I just can't decide. Ask me to arrange a Disney trip and it's no problem, this on to NY I'm having trouble with.

Is the Jersey one in Secaucus? If so, it's an easy bus ride into the city.

:rotfl2: I felt the same way planning the NYC trip! Yes, they charged an arm and a leg for parking. I actually had to sell one of my children, but it's ok because I just sold the one that ate too much and talked back! :teeth: It's such a nice area.

You walk right by the World Trade Center site when you go to the subway and I didn't know that I would get so emotional. I had tears streaming down my face, especially the first time--thankfully it was at night.

How old are your children? What helped me with my planning was getting my children involved. We opened up a yahoo groups site for the NYC trip planning and used that to put ideas on. Any ideas that any of us had went on there. My then 17yoDD and 11yoDS really got into it, along with my DH (who doesn't at all get into planning WDW). My then 5yo DS didn't and neither did my 14yo DS. My 14yo complained the whole time about what we were doing and we were all so mad at him. The funny thing is that he now wants to go back and says he wants to move to NYC when he's an adult. :rotfl2: My youngest is a WDW nut and only likes to go there. :teeth:

Make sure you eat lots of pizza--it's so good!

we just stayed at the jersey city hyatt. aaa rate of 160 a night. it is right on the hudson, and has a gorgeous view of the city! the rooms were super modern and nice! the best part was right at the edge of the hotel is the PATH station, and 1 stop away is the WTC statio, a 4 min trip. even got free bkfst w that rate, booked right through hyatt online. we'll be staying here for our city weekend trips in the future! pking was either 30 a night valet but we found a spot on the street for free. it is very safe, parked next to a bmw...

When DD (9) and I went last year for Spring Break we stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Time Square. I orginally planned on staying out side the city but after further consideration I decided we would spend enough time getting around the city I didn't want to spend more time travelling back and forth as well. It worked out really well because there were a few afternoons we went back to the hotel and relaxed before changing for dinner.

I am with you on that one....We are taking our DD to NYC for her 16th birthday and I feel so lost planning. We are going for one week Jan 1 -7.

I actually saw a picture from a window at Embassy Suites and the view looked nice.

I booked the Waldorf, but I am continuing to research...

you can stay at the travel inn very close to times square and theatre district.

Also has free parking which is a bouns.

We stayed there 2 nights back in November. Good price for NYC hotel which wasn't too expensive and got good reviews on trip advisor.

We booked on expedia for our stay.

Unless you got a really good deal, you can do better. That's a hotel which rides along on it's name more than itself.

We stayed there last fall, and grabbed a great last minute deal, but if we hadn't gotten a good deal I would have felt ripped off.

I'm with Ducklite, don't do the Waldorf unless you're paying under maybe $150 for it. It's old and over-rated and the rooms are minuscule. In that very same neighborhood, you could stay at the newly renovated Doubletree, the Benjamin, the Marriott East Side (old, too, but in better shape than the Waldorf). Are you planning for next year already? To be honest, you're way ahead of yourself. You'll get the worst rates in NYC this far out. I'd just narrow your list of hotels - and this should depend completely on where you want to be in the city - and then book it about 90 days out. That week in NYC should be quiet depending on what day of the week Jan. 1 falls on. Most tourists are gone by that week. We did very well at the Westin Times Square that week this past year, and 2 years ago, DD and I stayed at the Sofitel. We prefer to be on the West side bc we go to the theatre and the movies while we're there, so it's easiest. I tend to stay on the East side for work bc our office is at 50th & Lexington. The Benjamin is my favorite hotel over there.
