Would this be fair?

As a lot of you know, DH and I are planning (along with DSIL and her gang)a big family trip to Michigan in Oct. There is a chance my boss (aka Little Hitler) will tell me I can't take the time off to go because I 'just' got back from maternity leave (I've been back since May 5th). :(

So...would it be fair to ask DH to help me plan a solo trip to WDW if I can't go to Michigan with him?

ToV,
If possibly you won't be able to take off work to go to Michigan with your family, how would you be able to swing the WDW trip??

Secondly - shouldn't you have put your request for the Oct. trip in at least a month ago? It sounds as though you are using the "tit for a tat" theory. In other words, well, he gets to go somewhere and I can't go on this particular trip, so I deserve my very own trip.

And thirdly - what about your baby? What will you do about childcare if you are on a solo trip?

I personally couldn't leave a small infant to make a trip by myself to an amusement park, or for that matter, anywhere. I cherished each and every moment I had with my two children when they were babies. They reached some milestone on a daily basis and I am so glad I was there to experience it with them.

So, how could you get time off for a WDW trip, but not for a
Michigan trip?

I wouldn't want to go to WDW without my husband if he was
able to come along. Now if he didn't WANT to come along,
that would be a different thing.

We left our oldest daughter home in 96 at 3 months old to go to WDW. We left he home with my mother for the week it was a blessing.

Definitely not fair.

What makes you think you can get time off for WDW and not for a family trip to MI? Also, aren't you visiting family in MI? The only way it would be fair is if you negotiated a solo trip to visit someone in your family that lives out of state

Nope, doesn't sound "fair" to me. I can see where you might want to do it, but it doesn't sound fair.

I would not do that to my dh. If I were unable to go on a trip with him for reasons that he could not control (it would be different if he were taking a trip with the 'guys' and you weren't invited) I would not feel like I get to have a solo disney trip in return. But I might try to talk him into a 'family' disney trip sooner than we would usually plan if we were able to do that.

yes thats fair, also ask hubby if he could find a few dates for you while your there :p

I'm assumiong the WDW trip is later, so you can get the time off. I say go for it. Be sure to schedule a spa treatment for yourself. Can a girlfriend go with you, and make it a girl's trip.

This wasn't part of the OP's question. It seems that her baby will be several months old by the time the trip occurs--hardly a small infant who can't live without his/her mother for a few days.

To the OP, that doesn't really sound like a fair trade-off to me. It actually sounds like you're trying to "get out of" visiting the in-laws. Not saying that's the case, just kind of looks that way.

I'm actually going a 3-nt cruise with my girlfriends in Dec (ooh-and my baby will be 5 mos old--bad me). I told my DH that he should take the boys to visit his mom while I'm gone. (You see, that way I can get out of visiting for Thanksgiving and Xmas :teeth: ) He didn't go for that at all. Dang it!

Well, I no longer have to worry about it because the boss said as long as I tell him by Monday when I'm going, I can go. Otherwise, I cannot go.

I was thinking that if I was unable to get the time off in early-mid Oct for the Michigan trip, I would try to convince DH to let me go on a solo trip to WDW in Feb or March of '05. :) But I don't have to worry about that now. Oh well..thanks for the advice anyway.
