I have no problem asking for a to go box at a local Mexican restaurant or Applebee/Benigan type restaurants. However, I never do at more expensive restaurants. For my upcoming May trip I have the DxDDP and will be dining at a Signature restaurant every night. I think I may be too full for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. However, I normally work night shift and my usual dinner time is around 2:00am. Even at WDW I wake up between 2:00-2:30 every morning ready to eat something. I love cheese plates. Would it be bad manners to request a cheese plate for dessert at a Signature restaurant in a to go box to use as a late night snack? I would be going directly back to the resort after my meal and will have a fridge in the room.

I don't think so! You want to be sure to get your money's worth on the dining plan- don't waste it!

Bad manners? Not at all!

I usually try to wrap up some of my dinner (even at the best restaurants) so I eat less!:rotfl: Of course that doesn't always work for moi...oink oink.

Enjoy free dining! Have fun!

No way. We eat at "fine dining" establishments all the time, and don't hesitate to ask for the "doggy bag."

Absolutely not! You are paying for it and I've see more and more boxes leaving WDW restaurants in the last few years.

I do remember reading somewhere that it was offensive to the chef if you automatically ask for something to be boxed (I can't remember if it applied to just dinners or everything). What I would probably do is have your server bring it out on a plate first and then ask for the to-go box and box it at your table. That way your sure to get your late-night snack and not offend anyone. JMO :)

Wow, that was quick! Thanks, I just didn't know if I'd feel weird asking for a to go box in a nicer restaurant. There have been times I've been tempted, but it seems like I never do, then regret not asking for one when I get home. I think I may take the previous poster's advice and order it, then ask for a box after it gets to the table. Thanks, again!

I ask for to-go boxes when I have leftovers at higher end restaurants at home and at WDW. No worries =)

The only thing I would suggest is that you carry something with handles to put the to go box in. Like a plastic grocery bag. You said you were going right back to your room but it would make it easier to carry.

Just so you know, when we ate at the Yachtsmen Steakhouse, my husband loved the garlic spread so much that the server asked if we wanted to take some home with us! So the upscale places are fine with to go things.
