Would the CM's let a 6yr old ride the teacups alone?

My daughter really wants to ride the teacups, but both my husband and I are prone to motion sickness. Would they let her ride alone? I don't even think medicine would be helpful enough to allow either of us to ride with her.

7 is the magical age at Disney to ride alone.

I would look at the line and find a family with another young child and ask if she could ride with them.

Or you can ride them with her and not spin a lot, if you can stand just a bit of motion. I did that with my little one. we just didn't spin the cup other than what it did on its own and it wasn't too bad.

We had this problem with DD on one trip. DH usually rides the teacups with her. It's the only ride I can't stomach even with the help of Bonine. She's ridden it a couple of days before and wanted to ride again but DH was golfing and not in the park with us. We were debating whether I'd be able to handle it when a teenage couple offered to let her ride with them. Fine by me as I was right there to watch. Ended up being one of the highlights of her trip. They put her in the middle and spun so fast I couldn't even watch. They were all laughing and tripping up as they got off. We ended up riding IaSW with them as well. :thumbsup2

concur.. the only option os to see if there is room in a cup to squeeze her in.

at 6 she cannot ride alone yet. plus I doubt the CM would let her take an entire teacup by herself anyway. They will often skip over larger parties or 3 or 4 and bring forward a party of 2 to fill in an empty space.

More than once it has been DH and I plus at least one other person on the tea cup ride.

I hate that ride too!

My kids were 6 and 8....I waited in line with them and then slipped over to the exit to watch them (good setup there - since I can watch them the entire time). They had done this before on a previous trip - but then they started enforcing it big time. Asked both my kids their ages - and when they heard she was 6 - CM looked all around for me and told me she couldn't ride alone or even with her big brother.

I was on the spot - I had to slip in the exit to ride with them! YUCK!!! :)

When our daughter was little, we always walked up to another tea cup and asked if they minded if she road with them. We never had a problem finding a family willing to share the ride.

I guess the age enforcement thing is new, lol. My brother and I used to do teacups by ourselves when we were quite young.

I would say if you go up to the line, ask the CM if your DD can ride alone if you walk through the line with her. If the CM says no, then look for a family for her to ride with.

And as far as not letting people have a teacup to themselves, that is false. I have done teacups alone on many occasions.

My girls were 6 and 8 and went together to ride the teacups alone - nope, they weren't allowed - but I guess the family in line, a grandmom with two kids, must have volunteered or the CM asked if they minded... and my girls rode with them.
I'm prone to motion sickeness, too.

I'd say get in line with your child, and when get to the top of the line ask the CM and see what nice family nearby may say ahh, come on with us..... otherwise, go on yourself, plant your feet firmly on the floor of the ride and close your eyes!

I don't understand the rules that a kid 6 cannot ride something like the teacups themselves--the parents are right there--it is not like the kid is just left there to fend for themselves.

We truly baby kids too much. :sad2: Kids cannot do anything by themselves nowadays. It is like the ads I see for 15 years olds that need sitters?! :confused3 I WAS a sitter at 11! What 15 year old needs a sitter.....

If the magic rule is 7 years old--then I guess your dd is now 7 for this trip :rolleyes1

actually no the parents are not 'right there' there is a considerable amount of space between the ride itself and the fenceline.

even if the kid doesn't spin the center wheel, the ride itself is spinning decently and since there are no seat belts, it would not take much for a smaller, lighter child to be flung about. hell I get flung about and I am neither small nor light.

as for you insinuation that a parent should LIE.. well what is that teaching the kid? that their special snowflake uniqueness means they get to bend the rules to suit their own selfish desires? will this child's entire life be ruined if she has to wait an extra year to ride? will the trip be ruined? or will she pout for 20 minutes and be done with it.

especially since it is highly likely that the child will be adopted by a family anyway.

I'm really surprised at the amazing over reaction to the initial query. Although since this is the DIS forum, I shouldn't be!

Hopefully you can find someone else your child can ride with.

They have to draw the line somewhere for children riding alone, they decided 7 was a good number.
For the PP who said they will let you ride alone, that may well depend on how crowded the park is and how many guests are waiting to ride.
As far as making your child 7 for the ride....well, they may ask her. So then you'd have to coach her to lie....I don't think it's worth it. I bet you won't have any trouble getting a mom and child to invite your DD into their teacup - she'd certainly be welcome in mine if it isn't full....

I don't think the rule is necessarily all about the safety of the child. I think under 7's wandering around the parks and getting on to rides alone could possibly be disruptive to other guests.
