Anyone know of books that focus on P. L. Travers and Walt Disney's working together? I know that a portion of Saving Mr. Banks was fictionalized for the movie and would love to learn more about what really happened. Any recommendations?

An easy place to start if you haven't seen it: The Official Saving Mr. Banks "touchbook"; I downloaded it free for my iPad from the iBooks store. It is a nice little multi-media package that includes nice, clear photos of primary documents including personal correspondence, handwritten song drafts, and the first five pages of the "movie treatment" written for the film.

I haven't read it yet, but am going to order, "Mary Poppins, She wrote." From what I understand it is one of the more extensive biographies of P.L. Travers.

I was listing to a podcast earlier today (sorry can't remember which one) and they mentioned a CD of the Mary Poppins soundtrack that had a bonus disk that has some of the conversations between Walt, PL Travers and the Sherman Brothers.

Watched it yesterday on itunes. The title is "The Secret Life of Mary Poppins" and it is hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell. It was released around the time of the premiere of Saving Mr. Banks in London during the fall.

The show contains very in-depth information about Mrs. Travers and clips from a number of interviews she did in the years following the release of Mary Poppins. She was certainly quite a character. It's a very interesting documentary as long as you ignore the cheesy bits when the host is transported via umbrella a la Mary Poppins.

Watched this last night. Can't believe the film left out the fact she had a son!

She had an adopted son who was a twin but for whatever reason she chose not to adopt his identical brother.

She was also an actress which I can't reconcile with what is portrayed in the movie. A very complex woman that I would love to read more about!
