Would like some Mickey's Backyard BBQ reviews, please!

What do you think of Mickey's Backyard BBQ?

  • My whole family loves MBBBQ!

  • I don't care, but the kids love it.

  • The kids would have rather been at a different character meal.

  • NEVER going again, it was that awful! The 2 TS credits are better used elsewhere.

  • I have never been. I'm just here to see what everyone else said.

I am still a bit new to the boards. So my searches for said reviews haven't really turned up much. I'll get the hang of it at some point, I suppose. Until then, please forgive me if this information is already posted or this is in the wrong place. I just thought it made sense to start in dining since I'm asking about a dinner show.

My parents are making this trip a camping focused trip with forays into the parks. My mom is excited about the dinner shows & has already seen SoA & HDDR. Dad's only seen HDDR but is getting excited about SoA b/c Mom said too. :lmao:

I was just reading an awesome TR: 4 Parks + 5 Staples in the Baby's Head = 9 Magical Days!! (November 2008). This guy is just hilarious, although he does start out reassuring that the baby is okay. Everything he's reported on, matched or exceeded my expectations of Disney awesomeness. Except the Mickey's Yucky BBQ. He said it was not worth the time. The CMs had little control, the Characters never circulated, et cetera.

I just don't know if this is common. I don't want this to be a downside to my parents' trip. So any additional help is greatly appreciated!

PLEASE don't forget the poll!

NOTE: Tables are long picnic tables of about 40 people
per table, so you sit with other families. No reserved seating,
so the "mad dash" for seats can be interesting. There is no
"front row", just the end of the picnic tables. Folks start lining up
about 1-hr prior to the 5:30pm seating. Also, characters are there
for dancing and front interaction, and *usually* do not go thru tables,
so sometimes there is a long line trying to get to the charcters. It
should also be noted that the sides are open to the weather. They
can put up some plastic wind diverters, but it does get cold.

Thank you!! :yay: This is really straightforward & will help out tremendously!

We were there this past Dec. It was me, DH, & DD7 & we all LOVED the BQ. I read some really bad reviews about it, but since we were staying at the Fort, I wanted to give it a try for myself.

The food is just your typical BQ Disney food. It's the same they serve at Trail's End or HDDMR (at least the ribs & chicken are). My DD is not shy & when the characters came out, she ran right over to them & started to dance with them. She followed Minnie around & then went to Goofy & Mickey. The characters did not sign autographs, they just danced. They do not come around to the tables. There are different spots on the floor where the characters moved to. A band played country music & a guy did some trick roping. It is loud & unorganized. You don't have to be pushy, but it's not for the meek.

Do you have children going along? I would definately say if you have kids who are shy & won't go right up to a character & dance with them, then it wouldn't be worth it. If you expected on-on-one time with the characters, I can see where you would be disappointed. Are your parents are ok watching the kids have fun? It's not really a show. I think people who don't have children would not like this at all.

Good luck!!

We did it in 2010. It was me, my mom and DD(3). We had a good time and it is my mom's only request when we all go in October. The characters don't go around to the tables but they did work their way around the dance floor. They also stepped off to the side at one point and took pictures. I don't know if this always happens or we just got lucky. I don't however feel like it is worth 2TS. That being said we plan to go back.

Well this is good info. I do not have kids, I was just looking into this. I am basically being my parents' travel agent. We were all under the impression that it was another dinner show. Mainly b/c the wdw website has it listed under "Dinner Shows" :rotfl:.

Well, there is a show component. There is a live band and the emcees tell jokes and there is someone who performs rope tricks.

You need to be really early for a good set. The CMs now take each party to their seats. They don't do a very good job of spacing people out, though.

My DD LOVES it. It is her favorite meal of the trip. She lists it as her #1 must-do. So, we keep going. For me, I think it is fun, but I wouldn't keep going back again and again if it weren't for DD.

Thanks for all of the info! I had been wondering about this "dinner show" as well. Now I know for sure that this is not for my family. Our niece will be the wonderful:rolleyes: age of 13 when we go next year, and I think she'd be mortified to actually get up and dance with the characters LOL.
