I've checked out the DVC faq, but it seems to be for those who would like to buy. I've went thru a few pages of posts and only found 1 thread about renting. Can someone point me in the right direction to the "dummies guide to renting points"? ;)

If there isn't a "guide", this is what I'm not sure about:

I have very little info on what is needed or what it takes to rent points. I've read something about a $75 fee, but is that for transfering points or is it for renting, too? DH wants to stay at the WL in Sept and the discount rates are really good. But, if we rent points and stay at VWL, it could save us about $60 according to the point calculator. Are there any taxes on top of the points? Or any other fees?

How do you figure out who is good to rent from? I've been looking at the rent/trade board and I haven't seen a "do not rent from this person" thread. Has anyone been burned by renting points before? How do you know if the person that has the points is legitimate?

As for the VWL, they still share the WL pool, right? Can you request certain floors if you rent points? Other than no maid service, is there anything different about renting points vs. booking a room the "old fashioned" way?

Thanks for any help.

You can post your interest in renting from a DVC member on the <a href="http://198.64.133.85/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&forumid=29">DVC Rent/Trade Board.</a>

There is also a <a href="http://198.64.133.85/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33">FAQ</a> for that board which will answer some of your questions.

You can just post the dates you are looking for or respond to a member's offer of available points.

Good Luck!

Thanks webmasterdoc! It only added to my question list, though. ;) Renters can not pool hop? The faq said that renter MAY not be able to pool hop, making it sound like some places you can, some places you can not. Anyone know?

Yes, almost everyone knows.

You can not pool hop. A renter does not get the benefit a member does.

That is the rule.

When checking in, you will get an ID card that says "member", it is very likely that you will be able to use this anywhere you want to pool hop.

Technically, renters are not provided with the same benefits offered to members- including pool hopping.

In reality, your room ID will likely state "DVC Member", which will identify you as a DVC member or guest- and thus access to member benefits like pool hopping.

You will be given a list of member discounts at check-in at the DVC resort.

By the same token- you will not get daily housekeeping as you would with a cash-thru-Disney reservation. DVC members, their guests and renters, get a trash/towel change on the 4th day of a stay of less than 8 days.

Good Luck!

but it sounds like you were planning on a regular room at WL for cash while you would be staying at VWL if you rent points. There is a world of difference in the rooms. Even a studio at VWL will have a mini fridge and a coffeemaker while regular hotel rooms would not. If you are looking to rent a 1 bdrm then you are pretty much getting an apartment for your stay complete with washer/dryer, full kitchen and jacuzzi in the bathroom.

While renting points would make it cheaper and we would have the fridge, etc in the room, I am am thinking about a backup plan if they do not have a room for the days we want. Since we have stayed at the WL before, I know what to expect. But, we have never rented points before, so I have very little idea what to expect. (just what I have read here) I had forgotten that DVC members get pool hopping privies. If renters do, then they do. If they don't, then they don't. That wasn't a factor in deciding to try to rent points, but it would be an awsome perk! LOL

We were supposed to go on a Disney cruise, but too many things at home drained our finances. Since we already have the air, we are going. I am just trying to keep the budget down on some things (staying at the Amerisuites for 3 nights w/breakfast and a great pool for under $50 a night) so we can splurge on other things. (WL for 2 nights) That much we can afford, but if I can save us $60 on the room, we would have that money to do other things. ;) Thanks for the help!
