Been unemployed and looking for a job for about a month and a half. Dad referred me to the company he works for, which had two positions open in my field. The same week I interviewed with dad's place, I had a second interview somewhere else. Dad's place told me that while I wasn't quite right for their open spots (different type of industry than I have experience in), they would forward my resume to other places they have connections with. This AM I get an unexpected call back from Dad's co to come back and meet with the owner. :confused3 We had a scheduling issue and they were to call me back. Got emailed an offer by the other company :) in the afternoon, but haven't yet accepted. Was upfront with dad's co when they called back, and asked if they would still like me to come in, since I was to make a quick decision. Guy asked me to still come in & made appointment. Spoke with DB, who gave me some not so wonderful comments about dad's co. Thinking I'm going to take the other offer, but want to do the right thing by dad. Should I just call dad's co and say thanks, but that I will be taking the other offer, and don't want to waste their time, or do you think going to 2nd interview is the right thing to do? Hours more attractive at other place, industry more "fun". Just don't want to burn any bridges or anything.

Of course its okay to cancel the interview. Tell them you appreciate their interest but feel the other opportunity is right for you. Wish them luck with their future business and bid them farewell.

i'd probably go to the 2nd interview. the owner may offer something different than what a manager may have offered you in the original interview.

then you'd really know which one you want, even if it's obvious you want the other company and not dad's.

good luck!
