Would it be worth joining AAA to get the discount on a room??

Just curious as to how much it cost to join AAA and if it would be worth it to get a discount on a room rate or vacation package??

I think it cost me around $44 to join AAA. My main purpose in joining was to get a room discount at Disney (I know ) and it did save some money when booking the room but a code came out later on and I applied that instead and saved more than with AAA. But, people are speculating this year that there may not be codes with the celebration beginning in May because they are not having any trouble booking the rooms so it may be worth it to have AAA for the room discount just in case depending on when you go. Not to mention the roadside assistance is a nice perk.

I think membership cost varies around the country because our membership was $70 for the basic plan for one person. I have read other posts where the memberships were cheaper in other states. Odd, huh?

Anyway, we did get the membership to save money on our package and we saved about $140 (at a Value resort in regular season). And now if DH locks his keys in the truck he can call someone OTHER than me to come get them out.

I checked the AAA site against the Disney site and really not much of a savings to speak of. Like others posted better to get it for their road side assistance than for a Discount on rooms at Disney. If staying off site you might get a better deal on rooms at Kissamee because of AAA.

Well I am going in October for 7 nights and so far am saving 187.60 for a moderate (during value season). I am also going again during value season at the end of November for 4 nights and am saving 61.60 for a value resort. So that is a total savings of 250. The membership cost me 48/year so I am coming out just over 200 ahead.

Again and also the roadside service and some of the other travel perks.

Don't forget you get discounts on park ticket, too.

I have my AAA membership mainly for roadside assistance. But they map out road trips, and do all kinds of stuff for you,too. A AAA membership seems like a bargain to me. The WDW stuff is just added benefit.

As the membership costs vary by state/location, I found the AAA for Maryland - it's www.aaamidatlantic.com - they're running a special $15 off primary membership. I wasn't sure which city you're in, so I typed in the zip code for my husband's old hometown (20735): it looks like the basic annual primary membership fee is $56 (same to renew) and associate members are $28.

So you could get a one-year primary membership for $41 with the $15 discount. Not bad! Ours in Indiana is $65 for the new primary member and $55 to renew.

There are many great discounts with AAA in addition to hotel savings, but I have also used it for the towing, when I locked keys in car, had a flat tire, and TripTiks.

Anyone can go to www.aaa.com and enter their zip code to see the website of their local AAA office - and determine that AAA's fees.

I bought my AAA membership just to get 15% off the room rate at the Poly. It cost $56 and the next day I received a $256 discount off of the Poly. Yes a code may come out later that would give me a better deal, but then again a code may never materialize.

By the way, AAA offers a wide range of discounts at many different businesses. It is definitely worth checking into.

We've had AAA for years and pay about 80/yr to cover 2 drivers. The peace of mind is worth it but I also figure I make up alot of that just on ordering maps and trip tiks for our yearly vacation. We also use the show your card and save discount at regular hotels, sea world, etc. When I booked at disney I saved $300 with AAA discount off the price quoted on the DW website, this was for 3 nights mod 4 nights deluxe during value season. Of course if a code comes out for my dates that will nul the AAA discount, so it is a gamble if you get AAA just for a Disney trip.

Here is my savings. Oct. 1 - Oct. 8, seven nights at POFQ. Non-discounted price on Disney website: $1,162.98. My price with a AAA discount: $835. Total savings: $327.98. Cost of AAA membership for me and DH: $74. I also use AAA for roadside assistance, and they have GREAT travel books.

I can only speak for myself, but AAA has saved me up to $200 on our trip this coming Oct. I've read so much about codes and the great savings you get from them, however, I hardly ever hear of anyone getting to use them. I personally would rather book through AAA, guaranteeing my reservation, and saving at least a decent amount of money. Codes seem to risky. I gave a poster on this forum my TA's number, she's saving $400 on their trip. It's all about personal choice.

We find it well worth the cost of membership! We had AAA before Disney but we really get our money's worth now! The roadside assistance, key retrieval, and maps are nice perks also.
Just to give you an idea, we're saving over $200 on our stay at AKL in December. In addition to that, we'll probably purchase our tickets from AAA at a discount.

A tip -- You can request the AAA discount rate when you book your ressies, and then wait to apply for the card. You do NOT have to have your AAA membership number when calling Disney directly to make your reservations. They only insist that you present the card upon check-in; otherwise, you will be charged rack rate.

So I requested a room at a moderate resort with the AAA discount. Regular rate: $149. I got it for $126. $23 savings per night. For seven nights, that $161 in savings. The membership would cost me no more than $56. That's a great deal, IMO.

I was going to wait to see if discount codes came out before getting the AAA card, but have found that the card gives me great discounts to other retailers. For instance, I need to change the prescription in my eyeglasses, and the card gives me a 20 percent discount for lenses at LensCrafters. With a retail price of $170, I would save $34 just with my AAA card. Even more savings!!! So I will be applying for my card very soon, so I can get new glasses, haha.

And savings to Sea world too! I think 5 or 10 percent off regular admission for up to six people. At $60 per ticket, that's not bad at all!

And, since we are going to driving to WDW, the AAA road service will give us peace of mind. Let's hope we never have to use it though!

I paid $60.00 for my membership. We are on a budget trip this year, so we are booking at ASMO. I booked two rooms, one for me and DS 8, the other for DS 22 and his friend. I saved $16.00 a night, for a trip in September. So that came to $96.00 EACH!! Great for me and the older boys. I actually booked an extra night, so we could arrive a day earlier, since we could afford to do that. Keeps me from driving at 4:00 a.m. and gives us an extra night of play time.

If a better deal comes along, I can still cancel 5 days prior to check in.

It doesn't appear I can get a deal on the Premium Florida Annual Passes with AAA though, Disney is actually going to be $4.00 cheaper. I can get the Annual Passes and do add ons with AAA, but will still cost me more and only get to "hop" and hit the other Parks, etc. this one trip.

Plus, the additional savings elsewhere, and knowing I can get some aid should I have car problems. Especially since we drive to Disney it's nice to have.

If your only purpose for getting a AAA membership is for Disney discounts, take your room rate, and figure out 15% of it.

If 15% of your entire resort stay is LESS than a AAA membership in your area, it won't make sense to get AAA just for the discount.

I gotta agree with others though - there are so many more reasons to get AAA. They've changed flat tires for me on numerous occasions. I get TripTiks, maps, and guidebooks. It's definitely worth it!

I was living in the Bay area a few years ago, and Thanksgiving day, I lock my keys in the car, with no spare whatsoever. I kept thinking about what a locksmith was going to charge to get into my car, so I call AAA, a tow truck shows up at the house, guy gets out and uses one of those bars, and in 10 seconds pops my door open. NO CHARGE!! I tipped him for coming out, and he was more than appreciative. I also upgraded to the Plus service for the greatly increased distance on the towing service. With what I've saved on travel has more than paid for the membership, $100 off last Oct. to DW, and $200 this Oct.
