run while I am down the shore this weekend? I normally stick to the elipitcal machine in the gym, but tend to run 3-4 miles on that. My question is how different are the methods and muscles that are used for each exercise. Will my elipical training have my prepared to run?

I'm not sure if how the methods and muslces differ and I've never used an elliptical.

I say go for it. Run as much as you can and walk the rest. Your body will probably thank you for the cross training. I bet the Elliptical will have definately helped prepare you to run. It didn't hurt it at least!

Have a great weekend at the shore!

Your elliptical training will have helped your cardiovascular endurance but thats about it. Running is more demanding puts much more stress on your body, especially your joints. So your elliptical training may not make a huge difference when you try to run. But I agree with Melanie, give it shot. If you get too tired, stop and walk for a bit.

I'll be at the beach too this weekend. Have fun. :cool2:

I used to run on the beach when I was in high school and running on the sand, running on pavement, running on the elliptical are all different. Be sure you run on wet compact sand, do not run on the dry sand at all. Walk if you start to feel any joint pain at all. The wet sand is a great place to run because it is much easier than pavement and absorbs shock, but be sure to watch your form so you can avoid injury. Have fun-there nothing nicer than running along the shore!
