Would it be weird to bake a cake?

Well I've worked so hard finishing an essay today and literally have nothing to do this evening.

I'm really craving cake, I don't know why, but freshly baked cake.

I've never baked a cake by myself before but now I'm wondering if it would be totally strange if I just went out, bought the ingredients and cooked on??!!??

so far im struggling to cream the butter with the sugar, which is something I remember from school cookery!

So we shall see.....

ANd might I highly reccomend buying a 1/2 gallon of ice cream to scoop onto your hot cake?? OMG! YUM!

LOL!!! That's what I was thinking. I love to bake, but rarely bake cakes from scratch. Cookies are a different story. Let us know how it turns out!

make sure the butter is at least room temperature. Much harder to do with cold butter.

Noooo that's cheating! I'm trying to find out whether I am capable of baking a cake from scratch!

It's in the oven now and the remaining mixture that I'm eating from the bowl tastes good...so I might be ok!

Actually, I wonder if ready to bake cake mixtures are more available in the US than they are here, you can buy them here but not really a huge variety. Maybe that's why it seems strange that I'm cooking it from scratch?

Probably. They have a cake mix for just about any flavor you could want. And more than one brand of that flavor too.
