Would it be better to have a Dec. use year at SSR?

There is a lot of talk on these boards about SSR.

I've read that December use years get their pts. this December and can still take advantage of the incentives while being able to bank the pts into next year.

1. Are they banking 2003 pts or 2004 pts?

2. Do they get their last set of pts Dec. 2053-which I don't see a problem with-I would actually like it this way?

3. The pts they receive this December-are those 2003 pts or 2004 pts?

It looks to me like having a December use year would be great. Am I missing something?

Good question! I woudl liek to know thsi, too. So you're saying December use year gets points this Dec 2003 that can be banked into the Dec 2004 - November 2005 year. They woudl then still get December 2004 points. With the $10 credit they just can't use any poinst until May 2004. Plus no payemnts or dues until may. And longer contract date! Sounds like a win sitaution, doesn't it? If thsi is correct...
So does that mean Decber use year get like an extra set of points compared to other use years? So if you added on 100 points, you'd get 100 Dec 2003, 100 in Dec 2004 and $10 off?

I don't think they would get an extra year of pts. Does anyone know for sure if you get the pts this Dec. and what year are they from?

I'm just trying to make sense of this. I guess we'll have to see if someone with a Dec. use year added on at SSR.

I would think that if they did get pts this Dec. then they would get the last set in 2053.

i don't have a Dec UY, but what what i've been reading... i interpreted the presale offer as being:

1. you get a set of points 12/1/03
2. those points are really only valid from May/04 - Nov/04. so only 6 months use, so they're like subpar points... not of normal value... UNLESS you bank them, then they would be just like any normal banked points.
3. and then you get a normal set of points on 12/1/04.

heh, i'm just speculating for fun. so, definitely check with your guide for the real answer.

ok now i really must signoff and go run some errands.

What about the people that add on 100 pts tomorrow and they have a Dec. use year. They still get to take advantage of the incentives-either the $10 credit or the "special pts" that have to be used by Jan. AND here's the question. Do they get their first set of REAL pts. in Dec. 2003 or Dec. 2004?

I read today that it was Sept. 2003.

Anyone know for sure?

This is too confusing

You get December 2003 points. You can't use them until you close on SSR which I believe is in April. Disney is prorating the maintenance fees on the December 2003 points. You'll only pay 2/3 or the normal fee due to the fact that you're missing 1/3 of the use year. December 2004 you'll get new points.

alexant,

If what you are saying is true, then wouldn't a Dec. use year be THE use year to have?

I just like the fact of being able to take advantage of the incentives while actually still getting pts this year (even though you can't use them until next year). I think this would work out well near the end of the contract in 2054.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

We thought December worked out fine. As I said we get all our 2003 points and then get points in 2004. I guess that's why they're selling Dec first???

We had hoped that we could use the points in January when I'm running the Disney Marathon (a great event if you're a runner) but that didn't work out. We'll use the money we save from 2003 maintenance fees to help offset the cost of paying cash for room in January.

I can confirm all this information once we get it in writing from DVC later this week but here's how the deal worked.

-$500 when we agreed to purchase SSR
-the balance of the 10% downpayment is due in a month
-payments start after we close .... we're actually going to pay cash but the person we're dealing with knew we didn't want to give DVC our money to for several months before we actually got anything for it so she suggested that we apply for financing (10.75% is ridiculous in this market!!) and then simply pay the entire sum when the first payment is due...no early payment penalty, etc
-December 2003 use year. Maintenance fees are prorated to April.

Like I said, if you post again later in the week I'll confirm that it's all correct once we get the information in writing. If you have any other questions that I can help you with please feel free to ask.
