We own at AKL as of May. We are hesitant to try Boma for Dinner or Sanaa because we do not like curry, Indian food, Moroccan food and my husband does not even like Asian food. Taking that into account, is it possible that we would enjoy dining at Boma or Sanaa for dinner or would it be too ethnic for us?

The flavors at Boma are very toned down and not exotic at all. I've eaten at African restaurants many times and Boma is the most Americanized I've ever had. Still, it is my favorite restaurant at WDW.

I think you should try it because even if you stay away from the more spiced (not curried) food there are plenty of options.

I have not eaten at Sanaa so can't comment on that one.

I agree. The flavors are toned down and very good. Even my children 4 and 7 loved the place.

Yes, try it! I loved this place. We actually ate at both Boma and Sanna on our last trip (We were staying at Kidani) and LOVED them both, even my kids who are on the younger side (4, 7 and 9) at the time all loved both places.

We re all stressed now as we will be staying at YC on our next trip and we REALLY want to go back to Boma, not sure I can handle the trip there.

Good luck and Happy Planning!

Sanaa might be a stretch, but he'd like Boma! At a buffet you can always try a bite and get something else if you don't like it. With Sanaa you've got your order and no benefit of tasting it ahead.

I love the exotic flavors, DH is strictly meat & potatoes and no funny spices. He finds plenty that's plain or close to plain (sometimes cinnamon or allspice flavored) that he likes. His attitude is " I can peel the spiced rubbed skin off the chicken". He doesn't leave hungry, just avoids the side sauces and some of the more exotic unfamiliar dishes.

There are always two carved meats, just skip any spiced side sauce. Some plain veggies, nuggets, and pasta at the kid's station that anyone can enjoy. Lots of salads, breads and flatbreads, and the soups and desserts are great!

Cool. Maybe shall will give it a go. :)

That's the rub about Disney dining, nothing seems to be truly authentic....always a bit Americanized. For some restaurants that is great, but not all guests enjoy that.

Interesting that 3 peole said no, but have no input on the topic. ;) Generally the nay-sayers are the most vocal on all topics.

My 17 yo nephew, who is picky, enjoyed Boma very much back in March. I don't think you'll regret it.

While I cannot comment on Sanaa, I think you can enjoy Boma. The food is not terribly exotic, and the soups are fantastic.

You don't know until you try it. I've always wanted to try Boma, but haven't yet. I've been to Sanaa once, and enjoyed the food, but I wished I'd ordered something different. Since they are both at your home resort, I'd give them both at least one shot - if you don't like them, don't go back. There are soooo many excellent restaurants at WDW, there's no reason to force yourself to like a place that you really hate. But you won't know until you try it - if you like it then you can begin planning your future ADRs there. If you hate it, you can write it off as an interesting experience and try a different restaurant next time.

Boma has all kind of foods and will also cook what you need without spices BUT we never had a problem with anything out of ordinary and a finicky eater:scared1: was with me and really liked it. they do have some different things but each clearly marked what the foods are. Sanna I do not know as we never went there. but your husband can enjoy Bomas with out fear of curry..:yay:and the breakfast there is the best but are no characters.:thumbsup2

We didnt like Boma dinner because the food was heavy on the sweet side, lots of vanilla, cinnamon and other spices and I do not like me food to be sweet.

We love breakfast at Boma

Ditto for us - we didn't care for Boma dinner, but the breakfast is excellent!

ditto with Nicki's assessment of Boma dinner. Too much cinnamon (like ribs with so much cinnamon they tasted like they were swimming in red hots candy.) Way too many overly-sweet sauces & seasonings on items I'd not care to have sweet. And have to disagree with those who say the flavors are toned down...if you do not like Indian food, curry, morrocan, asian, etc. I would stay far, far away from both Boma dinner and Sanaa. We actually like all those kinds of food, but found the food at Boma to be extreme: either way over-spiced or totally flavor-less. Little in between and little moderately spiced (other than the totally yuck kids mac & cheese.) We liked Sanaa, but if you don't like curry, you won't like Sanaa. We have been to more than 35 of Disney's table service restaurants and have enjoyed almost all of them...Boma dinner is #1 on our short list of no-return restaurants.

Boma breakfast is outstanding, though. Majority of foods are totally American breakfast foods, done really well. There are a few exotic offerings to go with the theme of restaurant, but non-exotic palates can have a very good breakfast there.

I agree with the posters about the food being very sweet.

The dishes at Boma are mistakenly "spicey", people think hot "mexican" spicey, but at Boma all the spices are sweet in nature.

If you like cinnamon and fruit flavors to all of your food then you will like it.

The meats are rubbed with cinnamon, I hated this. Usually I can eat any type of beef or chicken, but when it tastes like a Christmas dessert....yuk!

All the side dishes and even the soups are sweet.

The only thing bland (or no spice, sweet or hot) on this buffet is the mac and cheese and nuggets on the kids buffet. Which wasn't very good by the way. WAY to mushy and bland. Unlike Crystal Palace's kids food. I believe it was an off day for this, as no other buffet has had mushy food before.

Anyway, I am not one to bash food at WDW, because to each his own. While the food at Boma wasn't bad...it wasn't our taste. So I just like to warn potential patrons of this taste. Because when you hear the word spice you think hot....and I would've give anything to have a hot spice......lol, not cinnamon. ;)

I voted no ... my son and I are meat-and-potatoes eaters, whereas my husband and daughter are adventurous eaters. None of us liked Boma's dinner. Their breakfast on the other hand, is outstanding.

Boma has TONS of dishes! They have a little bit of everything. People assume all of the food it spicy, but really it isn't. I would definitely describe a lot of the dishes as exotic. You have to try it at least once. Worse case you don't like it, and you just won't book it again. I honestly can say that I didn't think I would like it at first myself, but I LOVE it! :thumbsup2

I have only eaten at Boma's for breakfast but since we are staying AKL this trip have booked a lunch at Sanaa and a dinner at Boma, I am not too worried about Bomas for dinner since it is a buffet but I am a little worried about our lunch at Sanaa now----what does curry taste like???

DH is a very plain eater no sauces he does not even put dressing on salad, DS(40) has said he loves curry chicken and not sure about Ddil except she does not like spicey but I am thinking she means as in "hot"

I wonder now if I should rethink those ressies?

This is one of our must do places everytime we are in the world. I would definately give it a try. You will never know until you do. You say the word BOMA and all I can think is YUMMMMMMMM:hyper:
