Would California Grill be too weird for us?

I am starting to rethink our plans for California Grill. I looked at the menu on WDWinfo.com and some of the stuff seems a little too fancy for my DH and I. I don't like seafood at all and don't even know what a ton of the stuff on the menu is (think...Kelli Pickler from American Idol). We are meat and potatoes people but we do enjoy excellent food...just nothing too "exotic".

The child's menu looks more appealing to me....not sure if I can order off of it though.

I am mostly wanting to go for the great view of the fireworks show. Anyone think we should stay away from this place?

I would stick with it. I had filet with mashed potato and it was sooo lovely. My husband wanted the pork tenderloin but didn't want polenta, so he had it with the mashed potato, no problem, and the whole meal was his favourite of the holiday.
They delayed the desserts so we could go on to the deck to watch Wishes too.

Most of the entrees aren't that weird. I had the chicken and it honestly is the best chicken dish I've had in Disney.

Thanks!!! I'm so glad because I have been really looking forward to it but got scared when I saw the menu. We both love filet and mashed potatoes.

I love Cali Grill. My DH got the tenderloin and polenta his first visit and now each time we go one of us get that and the other gets a new item and we share!

however, if you are chosing it because of the view of the fireworks you may want to look at 'Ohana at the Poly. Its less expensive and more focus on meats. If you have a window seat you can see Wishes from there also.

Before we tried California Grill we thought the same thing - too weird, we don't know what any of this stuff is! But, honestly, the chefs know what they're doing. :) Unless it's something you KNOW you don't like (like seafood, as you said), give it a try. You'll probably be surprised by how good it is. We enjoyed California Grill, and it gave us courage to try a lot of other "weird" sounding dishes at other places, including Flying Fish, one of our favorite restaurants at Disney!

I'll add that the waiters here will be more than happy to help -- do NOT be afraid to ask questions, request substitutions, and briefly state your likes and dislikes. Just be friendly, nice, and honest, and you could just be in for the best meal you've ever had! We LOVE this restaurant and go every single trip.

(if you don't feel your waiter is being "happy to help" -- just say -- hey, we were brave enough to come here and try foods we haven't heard of before so could you please just help us out?!)
