Would Bonus Weeks (AC's) Encourage More DCV Members to Deposit with II?

I have a sister that owns a resort on Maui that trades through II (Interval International - the same exchange company that DVC trades through). She receives an AC (accomodation certificate) from II whenever she deposits her Maui week into the exchange system with II. This AC allows her an "extra" trip at a II resort for either $199 for a studio, $249 for a 1 bedroom, or $299 for a 2 bedroom. It's an extra incentive for her to deposit her week for trade.

Do you think more DVC members would consider trading their points through II if they could receive an AC for doing so? I know our dues are high with DVC and a lot of people buy DVC just to use. But I couldn't help but wonder if more DVC members would consider trading through II if there was an extra incentive offered like an AC?

Maybe, but it wouldn't influence me one way or the other.

We only bought enough points to use at WDW and that is where I want (& plan) to use them. We'll sell when that is no longer true. (Don't think DH even knows that points can be used for something that isn't Disney, LOL). Even though I did use points for a few days at the DL Hotel earlier this year, I've never even considered skipping a WDW trip to trade for something in II.

We do go other places, but don't use DVC to do so.

Best wishes -

Carol,

How did you like the Disneyland hotel? I want to stay there some day and see Disneyland. Peter Pan is my favorite Disney classic cartoon and I heard the swimming pool has a Peter Pan theme.

We've thought about flying out there for three or four days for a mini trip.

One thing about those accomodation certificates (I've used several in the past) - they are limited to short term bookings. I believe you can't book more than 45 days before your travel dates.

DVCjohn,

The AC my sister received on her Hawaii week was not limited to 45 days. Although, I think her AC may have had holidays blacked out. She's already booked an extra week in a 2 bedroom Marriott property for January 2007 with her AC.

That's interesting. The last 2 AC's I got were limited to 45 days. But if I recall, the one before that wasn't. Maybe they have 2 kinds, depending on the resort you're gving up. Obviously, giving up a Maui week would warrant the best possible AC.

We enjoyed our stay - were upgrade to a room that overlooked the pool. I thought the rooms were nice - loved the pixie dust scattered near the ceilings. The pool looked great and yes, it has a Peter Pan/Captain Hook/Pirates theme. We only stayed 2 nights and were too busy to swim (and it was too cold anyway). I think 3-4 days for a mini-trip sounds just great. Hope it works out for you.

does your sister want to rent or trade her hawaii week next year??- I got a bunch of boardwalk points for her

Maybe for some other members, but for us an extra bonus week wouldn't be enough of an incentive to deposit our DVC for an exchange. We purchased where we want to stay.

Then there is the issue that I've read too many posts concerning trades where DVC members were dissappointed with the condition of the room they were assigned when they checked-in to the traded resort. We'll stick to the DVC resorts where we know what to expect.

Last I heard, II has over 100 variations on the AC. IMO, they are worth a lot for those that are limited to peak travel. It would not be worth a deposit first just to get the AC rather than using the search first. And one can't have it both ways, you actually have to do the deposit FIRST to get the AC. I'm one of the ones that would prefer and benefit from DVC having a regular membership in II. Actually the other benefits we miss (lack of online access to II and no reduced costs during the 60 day window) are much more negative than no AC.

Dean,

Too bad Disney couldn't "sweeten the pot" for DVC members by having limited access to some of Interval's cash "getaway" weeks at least. Even if they offered DVC members two or three a year, that would be a nice little extra perk.

It'd be all or none I suspect. Pay a fee, join II, usual exchange rates and thelike to get the other perks. OK for us but not good for the average member who may only trade one or twice ever. Comparing to other points systems, a reduced rate inside 60 days is not unreasonable as others do it.
