Would an *almost* 13 year old be allowed in the Stack?

My sons are 12 (turns 13 one month after the cruise) and 15. My 12 year old will probably spend most of his time in the Lab, but it would be nice if he could join his 15 year old brother occationally in the Stack....to play video games, do the scavenger type games, etc. Would this be allowed? Is there an official registration for everyone in the Stack or is it more casual?

Thanks!!

I don't know for a fact but I have read here that as long as his or her birthdays are within 30 days they can move up to the next age group.

I am sure someone here will know for sure.

The policy is that they must be within 30 days of the next birthday to move up to the next group. What is NOT allowed is just what you suggest--moving back and forth between groups. Your son will need to be either in the 10-12 in the Lab OR with the 13-15 in THe Stack. Each child is allowed only one move during the trip.

I would suggest 2 things. First, talk to the counsellors. Secondly, start the 12 year old off in the Lab group. Then, if he wants to move up to the Stack, the counsellors will have had a chance to assess his maturity, and this could be his one move.

There are many times and places that the boys can be together outside of the programming. There are "family" activities scheduled throughout the cruise. THese range from building a race car out of vegetables, "toad race" (the toads are not alive!), pictionary, etc. The list goes on. In addition, there are scheduled family times in the Lab where kids of any age can use the facilities there with the parents. In addition, there are deck parties, sports activities, the arcade, etc....and that doesn't even begin to start with the entertainment stuff.

Do talk with the counsellors because the occasionally slide the rules a little to keep families together.

There is registration for the Stack, but the teens come and go as they please after they are registered as participating. They don't have sign in or out, and there is no parental notification system for them.(no beepers, etc.)

Thanks for the replies...

I don't want to take my 12 year old out of the lab. I'm sure he will be very happy there. I was just curious whether he could join his brother a few times if there was something on the teen navagator that they might enjoy together. It is more for the benefit of my 15 year old, who is not too big on big teen social events and might like the company of his brother. I guess the main question I had was how formal they are with the teen registration (I didn't know if the teens had to register at all...I didn't see in online) and whether anyone would notice (or care) if my younger son popped in occationally. It sounds like things in the Stack are more formal than I suspected and this will not be an option. No biggie, but I will ask, just in case.

Thanks again!

If you look on the Navigator for the 10-12 year olds, there is time for "Hanging Out in The Stack", so they get to use the facilities.

Your son would not be allowed to "switch" back and forth between the Lab and the Stack. It's one or the other. There is Lab time in the Stack (before the teens are allowed in).

My understanding from our last cruise was that the "Hanging Out in The Stack" time for the 10-12YOs occurred when the teenagers were at another activity. They got to use the facilities, but it was just their age group, no teens.

Okay - Straight from my 13 yr old daughter's mouth...if he is wearing a wrist band (which kids from the lab do wear) he will be asked to leave the Stack area by one of the counselors BUT if his wrist band is not on they never check the teens for their ages. They also have activities on the cruise where they split the 13-14 yr olds from the 15 -17 yr olds. She did say the only time they saw younger preteens was at the Dance parties but they are held usually around midnight.
